Limerick's Willie O'Connor will take on Michael Van Gerwen in round two of the PDC World Championships

The Cappamore native ruthlessly dispatched of Kciuk in round one, winning 3-0 in what was a dominant display.

It now sets up a mouth-watering clash tonight with three-time champions of the world, Michael Van Gerwen.

'MVG' earned his place in round two with an underwhelming win over Japan's Mitsuhiko Tatsunami but O'Connor is under no illusions as to how tough tonight's clash will be.

"I thought he was poor," O'Connor said.

"At the same time, Michael knows that he is 100 times better than that. I know that he is not going to play like that again, he is a fantastic player. He is one of, if not the best player in the world, so I am up against it. I am on the back foot going into it," the 39-year-old added.

O’Connor looks to qualify for the third round at the Worlds for just the third time, last doing so in 2021/22, while Van Gerwen has reached round three or better each time since 2011, while he was last winner in 2018/19.

Both players are scheduled to take to the stage at 9.10pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Darts.
