A TEAM of nine ladies – amongst them a teacher, a specialist nurse, solicitor, a football coach, an IT engineer, and a microbiologist, all personal friends from Foynes village and surrounding areas – are currently engaged in intensive training ahead of their forthcoming participation in the challenging HYROX Endurance event taking place in Dublin’s RDS premises from November 12 to 16.

Entered under the name 'Foynes Rox', team members – with 27 children between them – are Dympna O'Malley, Therése Hanlon, Ann Fitzimons, Pamela Costello, Margaret Kelly, Ann Shanahan, Niamh Mulcahy, Rose Moroney and Katie Moynihan, all of whom have been honing their fitness under the guidance of 26-years old Foynes LVL 1 gym-owner, Shane Dunne.

Described as an 'electrifying' four-day fitness extravaganza whose Dublin format will be replicated in 76 cities globally, HYROX is open to polished athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts seeking to raise their training to the next level.

Competitions combine 1km running events and 'test-of-endurance' workouts involving push/pull' weight trials – all of which will be repeated eight times over the four days of the competition and hosted indoors within the view of spectators.

Describing their undertaking as one great for friendship' and intended to 'future-proof our health and extend our active lives', team member Ann Shanahan said:

"Within our everyday lives personal fitness is forefront in our minds as we each do what we can to remain active for longer."

"Through our participation in HYROX, we can put ourselves to the test and contrast our fitness and endurance levels with others, men and women, who will compete in Dublin and in other venues,” Ms. Shanahan added.

Giving sponsorship support to the team is Birdhill-based construction plant and equipment distributor, McHale Plant Sales whose backing will be evident on the team’s attire.

Praising their 'enterprise and valour', McHale chairman, Michael McHale and managing director, Tim Shanahan said "they will carry with them the very best wishes of all in McHale Plant Sales at Birdhill and Rathcoole, and those who drive our UK operations at Tamworth and Edinburgh."
