Entering in the small team category, the crew will consist of 10 Villiers students - Art Thornbury, Cormac Welch, Tim Gouws, Noah Quinton, Seán Hayes, Sam Dunworth, Eoin O’Sullivan, Cace Macmillan, Barry Wilmot and Cillian Burke.

Organised and supervised by teacher Kerrie Crowley and parent Simon Welch, the event will take place over six hours beginning at 11am, with the athletes taking turns racing 500m sprints on a rowing machine.

It is believed to be the first time that an Irish crew in the U19 small team category has ever attempted this relay-style event, which will test the rowers’ strength, endurance, strategy and teamwork.

This will be the first Irish record attempt that Villiers Rowing Club will undertake and certainly won’t be the last, with plans to break the record currently held by a Galwegian squad in the large team category in the foreseeable future.
