TEENAGE Limerick swimmer Denis O'Brien set a new personal best for the 200m freestyle at the European Aquatics Junior Championships in Slovakia.
The Mungret man, who swims out of the National Centre in Limerick, secured a new pb of 1:51.80 for the 200m freestyle during Tuesday's opening day of the championships in Samorin, Slovakia.
O'Brien is coached by John Szaranek.

The Limerick teen's colleague at the National Swimming Centre in UL, John Shortt secured a place in the 50m backstroke final on the opening night of racing at the European Aquatics Junior Championships in Slovakia.
A native of Galway, Shortt attends Castletroy College to assit his training in UL.
Shortt got his championships underway on Tuesday morning with a personal best swim in the 50m Backstroke of 25.51. The 18-year-old, swimming in second semi-final on Tuesday evening, clocked 25.63 in a tight race for fourth place, the result seeing him through to Wednesday’s final in seventh overall.
Also, in action on Wednesday, one of the youngest members of Team Ireland, Denis O'Brien's younger sister Lucy. The Mungret Community College student swims in the 100m butterfly.
