Oliver Plachta of St Francis Boxing Club and John Mongans of Rathkeale Boxing Club who have been chosen to represent Ireland at European Junior Championships
TWO of Limerick's rising boxing stars have been picked to represent Ireland at the European Junior Championships in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina this coming weekend.
Oliver Plachta of St Francis boxing club and John Mongans of Rathkeale boxing club both won National Junior titles in their respective weight categories five weeks ago and have been training with the Irish high performance unit since. Both have impressed the training staff enough to book their seats on the plane to Bosnia.
Oliver will compete in the 46kg category while John will face off in the 80kg competition with bouts taking place for a full week from June 23 until June 30. 40 nations and 377 boxers contested in 2022, and the field is expected to be similar on this occasion.
This will be John's second European competition as he competed in the Euro schoolboy championships two years ago and Plachta who is seen as a top prospect for Irish boxing will have his first international experience this weekend.
