Gardaí issue travel and parking advice for hurling fans attending Cork v Limerick match

 

 

GARDAI have issued travel advice for GAA fans attending the Munster Senior Hurling Championship match between Cork and Limerick this weekend. 

The highly anticipated Round 3 match between the two counties will take place at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork this Saturday, May 11, with throw-in at 7pm. 

An Garda Síochána is reminding fans that there is no dedicated parking at the stadium, however, car parks in the city centre are open and within easy walking distance. 

Alternatively, a free shuttle bus service starts at 5pm; the buses are stationed opposite Goldbergs Bar on Victoria Road and they run every 20 minutes to and from the stadium. 

The service will run 90 minutes after full-time. 

Other public transport options include the 202 and 212 bus routes, which stop at Ballintemple on Blackroad Road near the pharmacy. 

Pedestrians will reportedly be given priority after the match and vehicles will be held for pedestrian safety. 

Road closures

Fans are also urged to be aware of road closures in and around the stadium before, during and after the match. 

These include (from 2pm), Ardfoyle/Park Avenue, Blackrock Road/Maryville, Monahan’s Road/Link Road, and Centre Park Road/Link Road. 

From 4pm, road closures include Boreenmanna Rd/ Churchyard Lane, (access for residents only), Blackrock Rd/Churchyard Lane, (access for residents only), Boreenmanna Rd/ Crab Lane, (access for residents only), Blackrock Rd/Crab Lane, (access for residents only), Monahan Road from Victoria Road Junction (By Circle K), Centre Park Road (from Roundabout), and Mill Road. 

The roads are expected to reopen at approximately 9pm.

Traveling by car 

    If traveling by car from the South Link Road (N27): 

    Take the Mahon/Blackrock exit, then left onto Skehard Road toward Boreenmanna Road.  Utilise available parking in the area being respectful of local residential and business needs. Please note that priority exiting will be given to traffic from Mahon and Ballintemple heading towards the South Link after the match. 

    If traveling by car from the North Ring Road (N20/N40): 

    Take the Dunkettle exit onto Lower Glanmire Road. Use Public Car Parks in City Centre. 

    Parking 

    Motorists parking in the City Centre are being reminded that it is unacceptable to block entrances to housing estates, business premises or parks, footpaths, disabled spaces, bus stops or areas which may restrict access for emergency services. 

    Coaches/buses are advised to park on the Boreenmanna Road faced for the South City Link Road for after match priority. 

    The drop off area for taxis is on Victoria Road, just before Marina Walk, while all other large Public Service Vehicles are to set down and pick up on the Boreenmanna Road, near the Maxol filling station. 

    After the match 

    Following the match, Gardaí would ask that everyone follow the direction of Gardaí and stewards. 

    Limerick and North Cork supporters are strongly advised to use the Tunnel and North Ring Road for travel home as there will be no traffic allowed through the city. 

    Attendance is expected to be in the region of 45,000; fans are asked to have patience when leaving the stadium and the surrounding area.
