Limerick Soccer - Abbeyfeale advance in Munster Junior Cup

Abbeyfeale United earned a home tie against Newcastle West or Glin Rovers in the second round of the Munster Junior Cup after a deserved 2-0 victory against Shannonside FC in the first round last Sunday.

Abbeyfeale United earned a home tie against Newcastle West or Glin Rovers in the second round of the Munster Junior Cup after a deserved 2-0 victory against Shannonside FC in the first round last Sunday.

Peter McGill gave Abbeyfeale the lead with a well-taken goal on the hour mark and sub Tommy Smith secured the win with the second goal in injury time.

This victory, coming on the back of a 4-1 win away to Glin Rovers, gives cause for optimism for Abbeyfeale for the season ahead. As for Shannonside, they have now suffered four defeats in a row and Trevor Lovelle’s men will need inspiration to come from somewhere and some new signings before the transfer deadline at the end of the week if they are to buck that trend.

The other Munster Junior Cup results involving Limerick Desmond teams last weekend were: Killeaney 2 Pallaskenry 0; Kilcornan 0 Rockhill Rovers 1; Ballysteen 1 Adare Utd 2; Rathkeale 2 Broadford Utd 3; Abbeyfeale Utd 2 Shannonside FC 0; Old Mill 0 Newcastle West Rovers 3; Feenagh 5 Ballingarry B 4 (after extra time).
