LIMERICK FC must do without the services of Rory Gaffney and Shane Guthrie for this Friday’s crucial Airtricity League Division 1 clash with Athlone Town in Jackman Park.
Guthrie must serve a one-match ban after being red-carded in the 1-0 win over SD Galway last weekend while Gaffney is out for the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his foot last week in training.
Gaffney, who has been one of Limerick’s best players this season and scored in three of the last six games he played in, missed the win over SD Galway after injuring himself in training on Wednesday night.
Pat Scully’s side have just three league games remaining and need two wins from those games to secure the league title and automatic promotion to the top flight for next season.
They play Athlone in Jackman Park this Friday before travelling to third-placed Longford on Saturday week, October 6. They then wrap up their campaign at home to Wexford Youths on Saturday, October 13.
Limerick are currently on 56 points, four clear of Waterford and six ahead of Longford.
