On Thursday evening Pike were made sweat in this one as Kilmallock put up a dogged resistance before succumbing to a late goal by Pat Moloney.

The county side, with little to play for, put in a commendable performance and while Pike had the bulk of the possession they struggled to make the breakthrough.

It looked like a draw was the likely outcome when Pat Moloney pounced, when Jeffery Judge had a shot blocked down, to fire in from a tight angle.

On Sunday, with Boro not in action, Pike moved to the top of the table with a 5-2 win over Carew Park.

An uncharacteristic error by Gordon Stewart handed Eddie O’Donovan a long range goal to open the scoring.

Another defensive error allowed Dave Ryan in to double the lead and a fine Jeffery Judge goal sealed it by half time.

Alan Barry made it 4-0 after the break before Mark Slattery put respectability on the scoreline with a brace. Alan Barry had the final say to complete the scoring.
