LIMERICK FC moved into outright second place in the First Division of the Airtricity League with this hard earned 1-0 over Athlone Town.
It was 55th-minute strike from Joe Gamble that was the difference between two evenly matched sides at Lissywoollen.
Limerick are now just one points off leaders Longford Town and they come to Jackman Park this Friday in a top of the table clash.
Last Friday night, Limerick came up against a side managed by former Super Blues boss Mike Kerley.
Included in the Athlone line-up was Limerick natives, Tommy Barrett and Jason Hughes while ex-Limerick defender Brian McCarthy was also in the team.
Limerick’s Rory Gaffney had the best chance of the first half but Athlone’s Pat Jennings was able for his effort. Ten minutes into the second period, Limerick broke the deadlock when midfielder Joe Gamble emerged onto a knock down from Denis Behan to roll into the net.
