Limerick look for Waterford win as second plays third

PROMOTION-CHASING Limerick FC will be hoping it’s a case of third time lucky this Friday when Pat Scully’s side face Waterford United in a crucial Airtricity League Division 1 tie.

Scully’s Limerick side has already suffered two defeats in the League to Waterford this season, a 3-1 reverse away from home in March followed by a 1-0 defeat to their Munster rivals at Jackman Park a month later.

Second-placed Limerick will be desperate to maintain the pressure on leaders Longford Town when they travel to the RSC to face third-placed Waterford this Friday (7.45pm). Limerick can go top if they beat third-placed Waterford as Longford don’t play Athlone Town until Saturday.

Limerick remained within a point of Longford as a result of their convincing 3-0 home win over Finn Harps at Jackman Park last time out.

On the same night, Longford produced a stunning late goal blitz to secure a dramatic 5-4 away win over Mervue United.

Limerick FC manager, Pat Scully said this week: “We had another good win against Finn Harps last Friday night.

“This week we travel to Waterford and we need to be on top of our game against a team that has got two results off us already this season.

“We need to turn that form around and put in a performance that will get us the right result on Friday night.”

Scully said he was especially pleased with his side’s second half display against Finn Harps.

He said: “I thought in the first half we worked very hard but our quality was probably lacking.

“We had a great second half performance and I thought the football we played was excellent. We’re doing really well at the moment but there’s still a long way to go and we need to keep focused every single week.”

Meanwhile, the Limerick FC Official Supporters’ Club are organising a bus to the Waterford United game this Friday, leaving Arthurs Quay Park at 3.30pm. The cost for adults is euro15, while U-15s is priced at euro8 accompanied by a parent.

Contact 087-1862678 or the Limerick FC Office in Knocknalisheen on 061-324563 for further details. This is open to members only and membership will be available on the day.
