Few would have thought, midway through their opener against the Clare League, that Jason O’Connor could have turned things around.

The Bannermen steamrolled a bewildered Limerick XI into a 4-0 lead in Ennis and although the visitors staged a commendable second half comeback in the end the deficit was too much to come back from, eventually losing 5-3, an own goal, Eddie Lee and Mike O’Gorman accounting for Limerick’s haul.

The manager had time between games to iron out the few kinks and by the time Limerick travelled to their Desmond League neighbours they were in full readiness.

Goals from Dermot Fitzgerald, Eoin Hanrahan and Mike O’Gorman along with a hat trick from Shane Clarke propelled Limerick to a 6-0 victory.

Ironically, if Limerick were to take full points on Saturday, they could top the group depending on the result from Clare v Desmond League.

The manager has a full hand to draw from and with the addition of Thomas Lyons, Shane Waters and Ian Storan competition for places is at a premium.

The Referee’s dispute was a double edged sword for the Manager. While the lack of competitive action will have done little for the sharpness of the side, a fully fit squad for the manager to pick from is the upside.

With Shane Waters returning from injury to join Shane Clarke and John Tierney, it gives the manager his first chance to play Limerick’s trio of Quadrangular winning Internationals together in the competition.

With the soccer public facing a second week of inaction, a bumper crowd is expected in Jackman Park on Saturday evening for a 7.30 kick off.

The Limerick team will be selected from the following players; Stephen Goggin (Aisling Annacotty), Dermot Fitzgerald, Alex Purcell (Ballynanty), Stephen Bradley (Fairview), Bobby Tier, Christy O’Neill, Pat Moloney, Eddie Lee, Ian Storan (Geraldines), Mike O’Gorman, Shane Clarke, Thomas Clarke, Aled Harkin, Darren Glasheen, Wayne O’Donovan, Thomas Lyons, Shane Waters (Janesboro), Gary Neville, Eddie O Donovan, Pat Mullins, John Tierney, Eoin Hanrahan (Pike Rvs)
