Talented Limerick teenager competes at European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships

Limerick teenager Denis O'Brien, from Mungret, is representing Ireland at the the European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Lithuania this week

A TALENTED Limerick teenager is a member of the Ireland squad competing at the European Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania. 

Highly-rated seventeen-year-old Denis O'Brien, from Mungret, is the only swimmer from Munster to feature on the Ireland team at the prestigious championships.

Mungret Community College student O'Brien is competing in the 200m freestyle heats this Tuesday morning as well as the 800m freestyle heats on Friday morning and the 400m freestyle on Sunday morning. 

Denis has been swimming competitively since he was eight years of age with Limerick swimming club. 
He now swims out of the National Center Limerick and trains 22 hours a week.
He turned in a number of impressive displays at the Irish Open Championships and Olympic Trials in May of this year. O'Brien finished third (senior) in the 800m freestyle and the 400 freestyle and was second (senior) in the 1500m freestyle. He won three golds in the junior competition in these three races.
