MATCH REPORT: Played in Shannon on Saturday evening this vital game for both teams certainly had an influence on the tight nature of this encounter. With both teams adopting a defensive attitude scores were at a premium and it was Alan O’Donoghue of Mitchell who opened the account with a free after five minutes before Tarbert’s Gerard O’Sullivan equalized only after ten minutes. Both teams exchanged points again before Tarbert went 4-3 at half time. The second half was just as intense but Tarbert maintained a one point lead running in the final ten minutes. Mitchells equalized with ten minutes left and straight from the kick out Mitchells went one point up and looked to be heading for victory. A switch by Tarbert in moving Shane Enright to full back and Ambrose Lanigan to centre back seemed to change the game however in the final five minutes. Paddy O’Connell levelled matters and then an excellent long range point from Kevin Enright put Tarbert up one. Again from the kick out Tarbert’s Andrew Doherty got the insurance point to gain a valuable two points. Result Tarbert 0-8 John Mitchells 0-6. Team Tommy Barrett, Jason Wren, Ambrose Lanigan, Daniel O’Connor, Ian Flavin, Shane Enright, Kieran Deenihan, John O’Connell, Kevin Enright, Niall Stack, Paddy O’Connell, Danny Wren, Gerard O’Sullivan, Donal Leahy and John Kelliher, Subs who played: Andrew Doherty, and Mark Buckley.
