MITCHELSTOWN GAA: Congratulations to Dave Moher, Croughmore, Mitchelstown who won the Ford Ka car in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Ford GAA draw on Saturday night. This was a draw involving 6 clubs who won various hurling and football league titles in 2012. Thirty names were drawn five from each club and on Saturday night Dave Moher survived to the end in the drum and was the lucky winner of the top prize. This Sunday Mitchelstown Junior A footballers open their championship campaign against last years champions Ballyclough. The game takes place in Kildorrery 3pm. Mitchelstown have prepared well for this game and would be expected to come out on top. They hav won their 3 games in the Division 1 FL. The most recent was a victory on Sunday over Buttevant in Mitchelstown on a scoreline of 3- 9 to 0- 6. KILBEHENNY ICA AGM: Kilbehenny ICA AGM was held on Tuesday night last in the Community Centre. There was a good sized attendance present. Both President Nellie Bailey and Josie Fox Treasurer who have served with distinction for a number of years did not seek re election. Sincere thanks was expressed to both for their outstanding service. The newly elected Officers for 2013/2014 are as follows – President Nan Downey, Hon Secretary Margaret O’Doherty, Treasurer Hannah Luddy, PRO Mary O’Brien.
BLOOD TRANSFUSION: The Irish Blood Transfusion Association wish to sincerely thank the 196 donors who attended the recent Blood Donor clinic at the Firgrove Hotel Mitchelstown Donors together with the families friends and neighbours that support them make up a community that brings life and hope to hospital patients every day.
BALLYGIBLIN GAA: Ballygiblin Minor B hurlers were in action in Buttevant on Thursday night last in the Rebel Og Northern Region MBHL against Buttevant. Ballygiblin wind assisted were slow to start and trailed 0-5 to 0- 0 after 15 minutes. They came very much into the game and some good points by Joseph O’Sullivan and George Pendle helped them to lead at the break 0-7 to 0- 6. Buttevant made full use of the wind in the second half and they had a goal and five points to just a late goal for Ballygiblin by Christopher Noonan. The final scoreline was 1- 11 to 1- 7. THE LATE NELLIE HAYES: The death occurred on April 19 of one of the oldest citizens in the Mitchelstown area. Nellie Hayes Clonmel Road Mitchelstown had just recently celebrated her 98th birthday. She died peacefully in gthe wonderful care of the staff at Corpus Christi Nursing Home. The late Nellie (Nee O’Brien) was a member of one of the oldest farming families in the Mitchelstown area. She was predeceased by her late husband William D Hayes. There was a very large and represented attendance at the family home over the week end for the Rosary and funeral. Removal took place to the local Parish Church for Requiem Mass on Tuesday and burial. Interment took place to the adjoining cemetery. To her sons John (Dominic) Conor, daughters Bernadette, Ros Ann, sons in law Paddy and Pat, grandchildren Gareth, Fionnuala, Daire, Rowan, Grainne,Alicia, Conor, Ailin & Ronan, great grandchild Shay, sister Kathleen, sister in law Margaret, nieces, nephews, relatives neighbours and many friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
