SET DANCING: Set dancing will resume at 8.30pm next Monday evening January 13 in Kilcornan House.Beginners and advanced welcome. Dancing from 8.30 to 10.30. Good fun, healthy exercise and you can have a laugh while learning the steps.
THE SUMMIT: There was a big local interest in the documentary ‘’The Summit’’ shown on RTE on Monday evening. The central theme of the documentary was based on Kilcornan man Ger McDonnell when he became the only Irish person to conquer K2 in 2008. Unfortunately the entire expedition turned to disaster when eleven climbers lost their lives on the descent. Ger was one of those, however, it is clear from the documentary that he died while trying to save some of his fellow climbers. Ger will always be remembered in Kilcornan for his achievements on the mountains. The clip of film which shows Ger pucking a sliotar with a hurley off the summit of Mount Everest is an archive to be treasured.
We remembered Ger here in Kilcornan during 2013 when Niall Quinn officially opened our all weather pitch and named it Ger McDonnell Memorial Park.
