CARDS: The results from last weeks card game at Monagea Parish Hall were 1st and 2nd divided, with nine games each, Kathleen O’Gorman and Mary O’Donnell, Kathleen Nash and Annie Leahy. The card game continues every week at 9pm.
COLLECTION: A collection in aid of Newcastle West Lions Club was taken up at masses in Monagea last weekend. The club would like to thank everyone who made a donation. The money will go to good causes in the area. Thanks also to those who helped with the collection.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEA DANCE: The next Sunday Afternoon Tea Dance in Monagea Parish Hall will take place on this Sunday November 3rd from 3 to 6 pm. Music will be provided by the very popular Dermot Lyons. Refreshments will be served. Why not come along and enjoy some great music and dancing. Admission is €5 and the proceeds go to the parish hall fund.
RAMBLING HOUSE: The Rambling House for October in Monagea Parish Hall took place on Friday night last. Many thanks to everyone who supported this event. Due to clashes with other events our crowd was smaller than usual but there was still some great entertainment on offer.
COUNTY CHAMPIONS REUNION: The Monagea County winning teams of 1986 and 1987 are holding a reunion on this Saturday night, November 2nd in Geraldine and Toms Bar Strand. This is a great opportunity for both the players and spectators to recall some of the happenings of those two county finals. So come along to what promises to be a great night.
MONAGEA GAA 300 CLUB DRAW: The annual Monagea GAA 300 club draw is due to take place early in November. All four draws will be completed before Christmas. The cost is €50 for the four draws. Each draw will have a prize fund of €1900 with the top prize of €1000. In addition there will be extra cash prizes in the first draw for those who pay the full fee at the start. Your support for this draw would be greatly appreciated as it is the major fundraiser for the club each year.
PARISH MISSION: A parish mission will be held in Monagea from Saturday November 16th to Friday November 22nd. The mission will be given by a Redemptorist priest and each night will have its own theme. It will include the involvement of many people from the parish. The final preparations are being put to each theme. There will be further details before November 16th.
GARRY MCMAHON REMEMBERED: The 5th annual Garry McMahon Traditional Singing weekend will take place, in Abbeyfeale, from 1st to November 4. The event is being hosted by the West Limerick singing club. The official opening takes place at the Ramble Inn Bar on Friday night at 8pm. One of the highlights of the weekend is expected to be the newly composed ballad competition which takes place at 4pm on Saturday in the Ramble Inn Bar. The 12 noon mass in Abbeyfeale church on Sunday is also expected to draw a huge crowd. It will feature the Abbeyfeale Choir. This mass was originally composed by the late Garry McMahon. There will be plenty traditional singing over the weekend and all are welcome.
UPCOMING CEILIS: There are a number of ceilis due to take place over the next few weeks. On this Saturday November 2nd there will be a ceili at the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine at 9.30pm. The proceeds from this will go to the Fr Chris O’Donnell Mission fund in St Patrick’s Parish, Argentine. Music on the night will be provided by the Templeglantine Comhaltas Ceili Band. Admission is €8 and your support would be greatly appreciated.
On Friday November 8th there will be a ceili in Halla Tadhg Gaelach, Tournafulla commencing at 9.30pm. The music for this ceili will be provided by the Allow Ceili Band. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.
West Limerick 102fm will hold a fundraising ceili at Knockaderry Community Centre on Friday November 23 starting at 9.30pm. Dancing to the music of Donie Nolan. The community radio station would greatly appreciate your support. Refreshments will be served.
COUNTY CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to Kieran Herlihy of Strand and Stephen and Shane Brosnan of Ballyshane who were members of the Newcastle West team that won the County final of the Premier Minor football championship recently. They beat Fr Caseys by 3-10 to 1-07. Together with Michael Loughnane they are preparing for the minor hurling final also.
