ALL- IRELAND SUCCESS: The Teampall an Ghleanntáin Comhaltas craobh had many successes at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Derry on last weekend winning a total of twelve All Ireland prizes, four firsts, five seconds and three thirds. The prizewinners were as follows, Flute fé 12: 2nd Cáit Ní Shithigh, Whistle fe 12: 2nd Éimhear Ní Fhlannabhra, Whistle 15-18: 3rd Suzanne Ní Churtáin, Concertina 15-18: 3rd Lisa Ní Sheighin, Banjo 12-15 : 1st Ian Mac Shithigh, Banjo o18: 3rd Gearóid Mac Curtáin, Mandolin 12-15: 1st Ian Mac Sithigh, Piano fé 12: 2nd Éimhear Ní Fhlannbhra, Fiddle Airs 15-18: 2nd Darragh Mac Curtáin, Melodeon 15-18: 1st Shauna Ní Liain, Songs in English, Ladies o 18: 2nd Cáit Ní Bhrúdair Uí Mhurchú, Songs in English, Boys fé 12: 1st Liam Ó Brúdair. MUSIC CLASS ENROLMENT: Enrolment for the new season of music classes will take place at Halla Inse Bhán on Monday, September 2 at 7.30 pm. It is important that all who wish to attend the classes for the coming year should be enrolled on the night.
DANCING CLASSES: A registration meeting for the new season of dancing classes run under the local Comhaltas craobh will take place on Saturday, August 24 at Halla Inse Bhán, beginners at 11.00 – 11.45am and existing pupils at 12noon – 12.30pm. Those who wish to be in the classes for the coming season are advised to be present.
SEISIÚN: The final Seisiún show of the current season takes place on this Thursday night, August 22 at the Devon Inn, tosnú 9.00pm and many of those who travelled to Derry for Fleadh na hÉireann will be present.. Last week’s show was well attended and all enjoyed an excellent performance of traditional music, song and dance.
HERITAGE SUNDAY WALK: Sunday next, August 25 there will be a visit at 3pm to the Barnagh railway tunne as part of Heritage Week. At 4pm there will be a 5 mile walk/cycle along the old railway (now the Great Southern Trail Greenway www.southerntrail.net) from Barnagh to Devon Road Station. Fáilte roimh gach éinne.
AUTUMN FAIR: Desmond Complex Newcastle West are holding an “AUTUMN FAIR” from 1 pm to 6 pm on Sunday August 25 on the grounds of Desmond Complex, There will be many attractions on the day including stalls, music, games for children, and a draw with some valuable prizes. This fair is intended as a fundraiser, but it will also provide information to the people of the local area on the facilities we provide for various groups of people from far and wide if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 069 62757.
