CROOM DEVELOPMENT AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Croom Development Association Ltd, takes place at Croom enterprise Centre on this Thursday 17th October at 8.00 pm. The report of the Executive Committee, the report of the Audited Financial Statements to elect new members to the Executive Committee and to elect Auditors.
Death: PHILOMENA (PHIL) LAWLOR RIP: The death took place of Philomena (Phil) Lawlor, (nee Mangan) Kylefea at her home last week, late of Fedamore, Ballingarde, Ballyneety. The remains reposed at Daffy’s funeral Home and her requiem mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Croom. Fr. Joe Kennedy PP, Fr. Liam Enright officiated. Fr. Joe Kennedy spoke of the sad experiences that Phil overcame during her life time, due to the tragedies which beset the family. Fr. Kennedy said that our hearts go out to her sons Denis, Joe, and Keith, sister Betty, Johnny and Thomas, niece Carol, Colette and Joe, her 7 grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law. The singing was performed by Fr. Liam Enright and Fr. Liam recited the Eulogy and the Life of the late Phil which was compiled by her son Joe. Her burial took place to the family burial place in Fedamore Cemetery. The closely knit community of Kylefea and Caemore showed their community strength as neighbours and friends during the sudden and untimely passing of the late Phil who was loved and respected in the tightly knit estate of Kylefea. Phil showed how to carry the Crosses which she experienced throughout her life where she showed no hurt or grudge. May she rest in peace.
CRUMLIN HOSPITAL DANCE (CRYSTAL SWING): There will be a 1960’s fund raising dance in Bulgaden Castle featuring Crystal Swing and Old News (support band) on Friday night October 25th. with all proceeds going to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin. This is a most worthy cause so let down your hair, roll back the years and swing the night as in the swinging sixties. Admision €10. Please support.
THE CROOMS of CAROLINA VISIT: Marcus Croom from North Carolina who visited the Maigueside district in 2011 has informed the local scribe that the residents and natives of Croom and the district of Kenston are hoping to visit the area in 2014 that the President of the Croom clan has been discussing a planned visit with the different families and groupings in the American State of Nth Carolina. There are several family links in the district of Kenston and there is a longing for those people to visit the Croom and Maigueside where their ancestors came to reside some centuries ago. Marcus Croom has informed the Croom scribe that the visiting families would dress in the old traditional fashion of the residents of Croom who lived in the Maigueside district those years ago. The costumes and Garrison style uniform whether to emulate the Crooms going to war which many a battle took place, their war cry ”Crom-abú” Limerick will be celebrating the City of Culture in 2014 It would be an appropriate time for our visiting ancestors to be part of the Cultural activities of the Limerick Region.

CROOM MACRA: Our weekly sports night is now up and running. It takes place each Thursday night at Croom Community Centre from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Men and women are welcome and there will be lots of sports on offer. Contact Sharon on 085 2105850 for more information or simply turn up on the night. The club are going bowling on Saturday night to Fun World, Ennis Road. This will be part of the county round of the Macra bowling competition. Any members wishing to take part please let me know. Come on Croom! All systems are go for our Halloween table quiz. It will be held on Friday 1st November in Hickey’s Bar, Croom. Put your thinking caps on and assemble your fancy dress costume. Beware of a scare! There will be a ‘New Officers Night’ held in the Woodlands at 8pm on November 16th. This session will be useful for giving new officers tips or advice in their current roles. It will be well worth going to if you wish to improve your position or if you want to clarify your position within your club. A huge congratulations to Liam Ryan and Marie Griffin who have got engaged. Well done to the two of you. Lovely news for a lovely couple.
