RECENT DEATHS: Sympathy to David O’Mahony of Ballygeale on the death of his sister in law Susan Borkowski-O’Mahony in Tralee last week. Susan, who was originally from Connecticut USA, was married to Billy O’Mahony. She is survived by husband Billy, parents Norman and Jean, relatives and friends. Her funeral took place in Tralee on Friday and Saturday last with burial in Rath Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
The death took place on Sunday morning last of Betty Brouder Killoughteen, formerly O’Connell of Crean Monagea. Betty had been ill for some time. She is survived by her husband Danny, daughter Sheila, sons Tony and Tom, sister Noreen, son in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a large circle of friends. Her burial took place in Calvery cemetery on Wednesday.
WEDDING: Congratulations to Ita Kelly and Mike Walsh who were married on Friday last. Ita, originally from Ashford now living in Strand is daughter to Geraldine and Mike Kelly. The happy couple celebrated with family and friends in the Devon Inn Templeglantine.
COUNTY CHAMPIONS REUNION: Preparations are well under way for the reunion of the Monagea County winning teams of 1986 and 1987. It takes place at Geraldine and Tom’s pub in Strand on Saturday November 2nd. All the players that were involved are asked to keep that date free. It is hoped that plenty support will come from the parish and that a great night will be had by all.
CARDS: The results of last week’s card game at Monagea Parish Hall were 1st, with ten games, Tom O’Callaghan and Con Cregan. 2nd divided, with eight games each, John Joe Sexton and Johnny Enright, Pat Condon and John Upton. Table prizes Donie O’Donovan and James Bridgeman, Donal Mulcahy and Pa Quilligan, Jer and Mary Collins. Raffle Bobby Mullane, Donal Mulcahy, Pat Harnett, Peter Culhane, Jer Collins. The card game continues every Wednesday night at 9pm.
CLASSES: Fitness and aerobics classes take place at Monagea Parish Hall every Tuesday evening from 7.30 to 8.30pm. This is a great opportunity to get into shape before Christmas. Why not get some friends and use it as a social occasion also.
Adult dancing classes take place in the Hall every Thursday night from 8.30 to 10.30pm. All levels of dancing are catered for. For those who take their dancing seriously it is also a great way to keep fit.
LIMERICK GAA CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA club draw for October took place at An Trasnan Bar Ballylanders recently. There was no winner from Monagea. There are now just two draws left for 2013. The November draw takes place at the Croke Park Bar Croagh on Friday November 1st.
MONAGEA GAA “300 CLUB” DRAW: The annual Monagea GAA “300 club” draw is due to take place shortly. The cost is €50 for the four draws. All the draws will take place before Christmas. Over the past number of years the “300 club” draw has been the major fundraiser for the club. With cost constantly increasing for the club it is important that this draw is well supported. Most club members have cards for the draw and any of them can be contacted if you wish to join.
HAPPY RETIREMENT: Their many friends in Monagea wish Tony and Peg Murphy of Abbeyfeale a happy and long retirement following the sale of their business, Abbey Coaches to Fitzpatrick’s of Listowel. It was Tony who supplied the transport for the Monagea Macra group when they travelled to Dublin for the 1983 and 1984 All Ireland Light Entertainment Finals. Everybody present will remember for ever the sight of Tony’s bus coming up the Monagea Road, with the All Ireland Champions on board in 1984. Once again we wish Tony and Peg health and happiness in their retirement.
MINOR HURLING SUCCESS: Congratulations to Kieran Herlihy, Stephen Brosnan and Michael Loughnane all from Monagea who were part of the Newcastle West team that recently won the West Minor A hurling Championship final. We wish them the best of luck in the county semi final.
WEST LIMERICK 102FM FUNDRAISER: West Limerick 102fm will hold a ceilí night on Friday November 22nd to raise funds to continue to run the radio station. The ceilí will be held in Knockaderry Community Centre starting at 9.30pm. Music will be by Donie Nolan. Admission is €10.
