Death: The death took place unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday night of Michael O Dwyer, Meanus, formerly of Thurlas. A former member of An Garda Shiocana he was stationed in Bruff from where he retired in 1992. He built a new house in Meanus where he came to live with his wife Catherine in 1985. Michael always kept greyhounds and was involved with Ardpatrick/Kilfinane Coursing Club where he was Secretary. He was active until his death and was a highly respected member of the Community and his sudden passing caused a big shock both in Meanus and the surrounding area. His remains were removed from Daffy’s Funeral Home, Croom to Meanus Church and on Easter Sunday his funeral Mass was celebrated by Canon James Culhane assisted by Fr. Joe Foley, Bruff and Fr. Cussen, Fedamore. A Guard of Honour was formed by the Gardai as his remains left the Church and he was buried in the local cemetery to the strains of his beloved “Slieve Na mBan”. He is survived by his wife Catherine, son Michael, daughters Geraldine, Anne Marie, and Fiona, brother Tom, sisters Nora and Breda, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and his many friends. Ar Dheis Dei go raibh a Anam dilis.
As a mark of respect to the O Dwyer Family the Fundraiser organised by Camogue Rovers GAA club due to take place at Dempsey’s on last Saturday night has been postponed until this Friday night 5th April commencing at 9p.m.
Camogue Rovers GAA club Fundraiser: Club Fundraiser in the form of Leg Waxing and Head Shaving to take place in Statia Dempsey’s Bar, Meanus, on this Friday night, 5th April. All players will be taking part and we would greatly appreciate all support on the night and all sponsorship of players. Anyone who sponsors a player will have the chance to partake in the head shaving or leg waxing on the night. All players have sponsorship cards and there are also cards available in Dempsey’s bar.
Pre-season training for both hurling and football players takes place every Tuesday and Friday at 7.30 p.m. in the GAA field in Meanus. All players are asked to attend.
Table Quiz: Meanus Defibulator Group held a very successful Table Quiz in Meanus Community Centre on last Friday night with over thirty tables in attendance. The club would like to thank most sincerely all who attended on the night, those who donated spot prizes and those who helped in any was in making the night such a success. Your support was greatly appreciated.
Birthday: Congratulations are extended to Denis Cullinan, Meanus who celebrated his 70th Birthday recently with a Party in Adare Manor with his family and friends.
