PAUSE IN CELEBRATIONS FOR BLOOMSDAY: We are sorry to have to inform all, that the major celebration of Bloomsday in Bruff will not take place this year. We are pausing this year. There are various reasons for this, some way out of our control. This does not of course mean that we will not return. We WILL return next year as Limerick City starts to celebrate City of Culture status. There may well be some small events in and around 16th of June, both public and private. The absence of Bloomsday in Bruff this year creates some space in a crowded community calendar; this will allow time, energy and finance to be targeted to other festivals, in particular the Gathering celebrations starting on the 1st July. The Bloomsday group will return with energy and vigour in the new year with a major event in January 2014!
U12 GIRLS COMMUNITY GAMES SOCCER: Kilmallock/Effin/Bulgaden 2 – BGM 5. Another positive & confident display resulted in a 5-3 victory over a strong Kilmallock/Effin/Bulgaden side on a perfectly manicured surface in Gortboy. Isabel O’Rourke & Megan Hickey got on the score sheet early in this game with two brilliant strikes from distance. Shannon Leo then tacked on number three. However the opposition proved their worth by powering home two well taken goals within two minutes to get them back in the contest. The girls then regrouped & Shannon Leo notched up number four & her second just on the stroke of half time. Playing against a strong breeze in the second half focus was placed on a defensive formation as the anticipated Kilmallock onslaught materialised. Ciara Hynes was resolute in goals as she volunteered to don the gloves for the second half & made some fine saves to thwart any attack. Aisling Lynch & Lily O’Brien were absolutely brilliant in defence, clearing every ball with distance & averted any danger that came their way. Megan Hickey dominated the midfield exchanges & took her goal opportunity very well. A major feature of Megan’s play on the night was her ability to execute a header with skill & ability. She was ably assisted by Isabel O’Rourke who was everywhere on the pitch & also finished off her score well when they chance presented itself. Kate Bateman played in goals for the first half & made some telling saves to keep her team in the game when they were under pressure. Kate’s midfield role in the second half saw her involved in some lovely passing interchanges & she worked hard to support the teammates in defence. Up front prolific Shannon Leo again proved her worth with another two strikes in this game. She was ably assisted by Caoimhe Daly who scored number five to put the result beyond doubt & ensure victory. Both Caoimhe & Nicole Griffin were brilliant at closing down any defensive clearances & allowed the opposition no time on the ball. Nicole was most unlucky not to score number six late in the game. Overall a resounding victory as we now progress to the latter stages of this County Competition.
