The organisers of the 32nd annual Galbally Garden Fete on Sunday, August 28, are already ‘bowled’ over by the reaction to its cricket exhibition and they are pleased to report that there has been an equally positive response to a number of other attractions including the helicopter rides.
“We had helicopter flights before, maybe ten or fifteen years ago, but the reaction this time around has surprised everyone,” said Jim Fitzgerald, Galbally Community Council chairman of the helicopter rides which come courtesy of Executive Helicopters in Galway.
“People are really anxious to avail of the opportunity to view the area including the Galtee Mountains from the air. I met one elderly man this week and he said that he’s really looking forward to taking a trip in the helicopter,” he added.
Meanwhile, Carol O’Brien, who looks after sponsorship for the garden fete, confirmed that the response to the event is very good.
“People are being very generous despite the downturn as they always want to support local events like this. We really need the funds after spending so much on the village park so every bit helps,” Carol concluded.
John Joe Fahey was busy getting the signs ready for distribution this week while the ladies committee were formulating a catering plan for the day with committee member, Peggy Ryan at the helm.
Galbally Garden Fete will also feature a visit from top entertainment star, Jimmy Buckley, open air bingo, the Liam Lynch Pipe Band, Williams Carnival and much more.
The event kicks off at 2pm and further details can be acquired from John at 087 6123334.
