CYCLE LANE: Welcome though the introduction of cycle lanes, a number of years ago, in this locality was, their condition, from a safety and general maintenance point of view, regularly leaves a lot to be desired. Right now, for instance, and not for the first time, the amount of silt accumulated at a number of points along the cycle lane renders the facility unsafe for cyclists to use, not to mention being particularly unsightly. It behoves Limerick County Council to maintain facilities such as this in a constantly safe condition. One could not blame cyclists, given the unsafe condition of sections of the cycle lane at present, for avoiding it; the alternative of using the roadway however, together with all of the other busy, and constant, traffic brings its own hazards.
