Last Saturday February 1, St. Bridget’s Day which is normally celebrated in Kilcornan by a visit to the Holy Well. Weather conditions took its toll and consequently very few people braved the elements. We hope to visit the Well on Pentecost for the dawn Mass. Our thanks to the land owners who allow us use the Well, and our appreciation to those who maintain it.
Conradh na Gaeilge have issued an invitation to a Commemorative Mass in Irish which will be celebrated in St. Michael’s Church, Denmark Street, Limerick on Sunday February 2, 2014 at 10am in memory of the musicians from and Cístín and former members of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann and Conradh na Gaeilge who have gone to their rest. The Mass will be followed by a reception with light refreshments and music in Halla Íde, 18 Thomas Street.
There will be a talk and discussion given by Fr. Michael Paul Gallagher SJ on Wednesday February 5, 2014 at Corpus Christi Church Moyross at 7.30pm on Pope Francis - what makes him tick and why such an impact.
SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to the family of the late Bridget Shiels who died recently in her ninety sixth year. She passed away peacefully at Mick and Phil’s residence in Kilcornan and was laid to rest in Lisnakeera Cemetery after Requiem Mass in Kilcornan,celebrated by Fr. Irwin, Fr. Long, Fr. O’Gorman. May she rest in Peace.
GRANDPARENTS DAY: Grandparents Day was a wonderful celebration of the link between Grandparents and the pupils of Kilcornan N.S. as they hand on the faith. Thanks to Fr. Irwin for leading the prayer service, the Parents Council for serving teas and the students for their entertainment, beautiful artwork and creative writing. A special thanks to the Staff of the school for a wonderful day for grand and great grandparents.
KENRY HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The first event of this year will take place on Wednesday February 19 at 8pm. The talk is on Curragh Chase and the appropriate venue will be the Community Centre, Kilcornan. Our guest speaker is the author of the very popular booklet on Curragh Chase, namely Patrick T Fitzgerald of Adare. Patrick has been visiting the place since his childhood and has built up a store of knowledge on this subject so dear to his heart. His talk will include much new material which has not been public up to now. Members and non-members are invited and welcome.
VALENTINE’S BALL: Valentines Ball at Woodlands House Hotel on Friday February 21. Music in hotel foyer, Four course meal with complimentary wine.
Followed by music to Limerick band FINAL TOUCH Disco by DJB. Raffle on tickets for weekend hotel break and numerous other prizes. Tickets €50.
All proceeds on the night to go to Milford Hospice and Pieta House.
