The Gathering:The organiser of th e Gathering of the Friends of Fr. Browne and their families, Tony Keogh said, “We are expecting a huge crowd for the event and as well as former athletes from the parish, a number of household names are also expected to attend, including, former Limerick hurling stars Pat & Bernie Hartigan and Leonard Enright as well as former athletes Seán O Sullivan, Frank O Meara, Dick Power, Ger Hartmann and many others.”
A special DVD has been produced for the event which includes footage from Fr. Browne’s cine-camera recordings of various parish activities. There will also be a display of old and rare photographs of a local, historical and sporting nature. Music will be provided by local musicians and finger food will be provided.
Proceedings begin at Daggers Bar, Blackwater on Friday, December 6 at 8.30pm and all proceeds will be donated to Milford Hospice, where the late Fr. David Browne spent the last weeks of his life.
Meelick GAA: The AGM of Meelick GAA Club will be held on December 29th. This year proved to be a historic milestone in the Club’s history when they finalised the purchase of thirty acres from the Dept of Defence adjoining the existing club grounds at Knockalisheen.
The grounds will now be much more accessible when the Northern Relief Road is completed.
Parteen GAA: Parteen Junior B hurlers lost out by a narrow margin to Clonbonny in the Shield Final at Gurteen on Sunday last. Parteen GAA Club said, “ This was a cracker of a match with little between the teams all the way through. Extra time had to be played to separate these sides.” The game ended on the scoreline, Clonbonny 4-15 Parteen 4-13.
The Senior Club AGM meeting is set for Wednesday, December 4th in the Daggers Function Room. There will be a Mass held prior to the AGM in Parteen at 7.30pm for deceased members.
Parteen GAA Club congratulated St. Munchins College on their win over Ennistymon in the Munster Final. Parteen GAA Club had six players starting for St. Munchins College. The game finished on the scoreline, St. Munchins College 1-11, Ennistymon 0-10.
Parteen St. Nicholas Lotto Draw: Lotto draw took place at The Meelick Tavern on Sunday 24th Nov for a jackpot of €20,000. The numbers drawn were 3, 5, 7 & 30. There was no overall winner. Next weeks draw will take place at Flash’s bar on Sunday December 1 for a jackpot of €20,000.
Congratulations to St. Munchins on winning the Munster Hurling: ST Munchins College had a great win in the Colleges Munster Final under 16.5 C hurling Played at Gurteen against Ennistymon CBS. Parteen GAA Club had 6 starting for Munchins with Eoin Phelan having a brilliant game in goal keeping a clean sheet, the full back line of Evan Higgins Adam Moloney and James Burke were in outstanding form keeping the Ennistymon forwards well under control. At mid field Darren Ruane kept a great supply of ball into the forwards where Philip Bridgman was on top of his game with 4pts from play. Evan Higgins the Captain was presented with the Munster Cup to great applause from the large crowd of Munchin’s supporters.
Bag packing: Parteen GAA Club will be bagpacking on Thursday, December 19th. Parteen GAA Club said, “ If you can spare a few hours to help out, we would be very grateful as we need as much help as possible. We will be bagpacking for the full day and anybody over the age of 14 is welcome to help. Please contact Anna Ryan 087 1305181 or Ryansat24@yahoo.com if you can spare an hour or more. “
