Church News: Mass in Broadford for the month of December will be on Saturday evenings at 7.30pm and Sunday mornings at 9.30am. The reader on Saturday November 30 is Bridget Noonan and the Eucharistic Ministers are Garry and Nora O’Kelly. The reader for Sunday morning December 1 is Gerry Mulcahy and the Eucharistic Ministers are Kitty Duggan and Hannah McCarthy.
Mission Meeting: Following the very successful mission you are invited to a follow up meeting in the Broadford Community Centre at 7.30pm on Monday December 9. Fr. Seamus Enright who conducted the mission will attend this meeting. We look forward to a good attendance at this meeting.
Broadford Gathering D.V.D.: There is a slight delay in the delivery of the Gathering D.V.D. owing to a production glitz, so now it is hoped that it will be available at the Post Office and Moloney’s Foodstore this coming week. The D.V.D. includes action from the following events: the Day at the Forge, the Folklore Collection and Memorabilia in the Library, the Jazz night, the Fancy Dress Ball, the Rambling House, the unveiling of the Archbishop Duhig plaques and signpost, the Forestry Mass and much more. Cost €10.
Broadford Musical: Would you like to sing in the chorus of next year’s Broadford Musical? If you are 14 years or over and would like to be involved in the 2014 musical “ Showboat”, text 087/1383527 and you will be contacted before rehearsals begin. Up to 30 male and female singers are needed. If you want to take part come to a short meeting in the Community Centre Broadford on Friday November 29 at 8pm.
Night Vigil at Knock: The parish night vigil at Knock Shrine will take place on December 7 and to book your seat in the bus contact to Kitty Duggan Broadford at 063- 84167 or Kay Lordan Dromcollogher at 063-83304.
St. Vincent de Paul: The annual church gate collection for the St. Vincent de Paul takes place on Saturday and Sunday December 7 and 8 at all masses in Dromcollogher and Broadford. Your support will be appreciated.
Hazelwood College Table Quiz: Hazelwood College Parents Council are holding a table quiz in the school in the school on Thursday November 28. Four players per table and €5 per player. Everyone is welcome and we would like to extend a special invitation to students and parents to come along and support your school. All funds raised will go towards much needed equipment for different departments within the school.
Parent & Toddler Group: The parent and toddler group continue to meet every Thursday at the Day Care Centre Broadford from 10.30am to 12 noon. All are welcome.
Noonan’s Wonderland of Christmas Lights: The big switch on of Noonan’s of Templeglantine 2013 Christmas Spectacular Wonderland of Lights was made on Friday evening last November 22 at 7pm, all to help fundraise for several local charities and will continue until Sunday January 12 2014. The charities to benefit this year are The Brothers of Charity Newcastle West, Foynes, Adare Branch of Alzheimer’s Society, Milford Care Centre, Acquired Brain Injury, Castleisland Co. Kerry. There will be a special Christmas Party for the kids with Santa on Saturday December 7th at 5pm. The Noonan family of Tony, Hannah and Siobhán wish everyone a happy and holy Christmas and also wish to thank you all for your generous support for this fundraising event over the years.
Christmas Country Market: The annual Broadford Christmas Market takes place this year on Sunday December 8 straight after 9.30am Mass. This has always been a well-supported fundraising event with the whole community getting involved supplying a variety of baked goods, farm produce, etc. and we are asking you to keep up the good work again this year. We will again have the now famous Broadford Breakfast Roll for sale, supplied with a cup of tea or coffee which is always a welcome sight on the cold and frosty mornings of December. Any business people wishing to book a stall to display their goods and crafts for sale on the day contact Mary Lee-Geary at 063/84019.
Active Retirement News: The Broadford and District weekly meetings continue every Monday evening in the Day Care Centre starting at 7,30pm.Last week’s prize supplied by Mick Barry was won by Marjorie Sheehy. Mackey Stand Draw: The final draw of the Limerick County G.A.A. Club Draw formally known as the Mackey Stand Draw will take place on Friday December 6 at the Weigh Inn Ballysheedy. All local members contact your promoter before that date and complete your payment for this year.
G.A.A. News: The local Under 21 football team are involved in a three way play off with Shamrocks (a combination of Ballylanders, Galbally and Effin) and St Mary’s/Sean Finn’s of Rathkeale in Group 1 of the Premier Football championship after they all teams finished level on points after five rounds of league matches. Check County Board fixtures for more details. The best of luck to neighbours Feenagh/Kilmeedy and Feohanagh/Castlemahon in their respective Munster final encounters in the Munster club junior hurling and football championships.
The Lottery Draw: The Drom/Broadford G.A.A. lottery draw was held on Monday night November 18 at Begley’s Bar and the numbers drawn were: 6, 10, 20 and 21. The jackpot prize of €8,700 was not won.
The Match 3 prize of €300 was won by Lucy Stokes Tullylease. The lucky dips of €50 each were won by Garrett Reidy Dromcollogher and James Noonan Dromcollogher. Next week’s Jackpot is €8,800 (win or share) and the match 3 prize is €100 (win or share) will be held in the Green Bar Dromcollogher. Tickets are available at €2 each or 3 for €5 from committee members, at the box in the square or at all business premises.
Cards at Neenans: The winners of the weekly 45 card drive at Neenans Bar every Monday night were Mickie Murphy Springfield and Julia Duggan the Village with nine games. The runners up were John and Mary Madigan Cooleyroe. The raffle winners were €35 John Madigan Cooleyroe, €20 John Ahern Coolaleen and €10 Timmy Murphy Cooleyroe.
