SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL: The annual Christmas collection organised by the local Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is taking place this weekend, 30 November/1 December, and Parishioners are urged to respond as generously as they possibly can, even in these times of continuing general austerity. The normal monthly Church gate collection on behalf of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul was not held earlier this month, so as not to clash with the annual Samaritans Church gate collection which was held on the same weekend.
YOUTH PILGRIMAGE - CAMINO: Any local young people who are over twenty one years of age, and who would be interested in the possibility of becoming involved in a Youth Ministry Pilgrimage to Camino in Northern Spain next Summer, are invited to come along to an Information Evening this Friday evening, November 29, at the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Denmark Street. The evening will commence at 7.30pm and it will provide an opportunity to explore what is involved, and to see if sufficient interest is expressed to make the proposal worthwhile. The intended time of the Pilgrimage would be early July, and it would be necessary that any young person participating is aged over twenty one at the time of travelling. Anyone who is interested but who cannot attend the Information Evening on Friday next is welcome to contact the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre on 061-400133. Organisers of the proposed Pilgrimage would need to have the necessary details generally in place prior to Christmas time.
“CELEBRATION OF LIGHT”: The Console organisation has arranged it’s annual “Celebration Of Light” is being celebrated this Sunday, 1 December, at the Augustinian Church on O’Connell Street in the City. The ceremony will commence at 4pm and, again this year, the opportunity to remember loved ones lost to suicide is being provided, by way of reflection, remembrance, celebration, song, poetry and music. RAHEEN TOASTMASTERS: Raheen Toastmasters Club will hold it’s next meeting on Tuesday, 3 December, at the local South Court Hotel, Raheen. The Club meets at this venue on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, from 8pm to 10pm; anyone interested in availing of an opportunity to improve their communications skills, to prepare speeches, make presentations, “think on their feet” an d generally to enjoy Public Speaking, as well as to make new friends, is welcome to come along to any of these meetings. BAPTISMAL MEETING: A Baptismal meeting will be held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on Thursday evening next, 5 December, at 7.30pm; parents whose babies are about to be baptised are obliged to attend this meeting. Baptism meetings, organised by the Parish Baptism team, are held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7.30pm. The purpose of these meetings is to assist with preparation for receiving the Sacrament; parents, and godparents if possible, who reside in the parish, and who intend having their child baptised, are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, where all of the information which they require regarding the Sacrament of Baptism will be made available to them.
PADRE PIO: On Wednesday next, December 4, at 9.30am in St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Mungret the monthly Padre Pio Mass will be celebrated, followed by Prayers and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; everyone is welcome to attend this monthly celebration in honour of St. Padre Pio.
ICA MEETING - RAHEEN: The Limerick City Guild of the Irish Countrywomens Association holds its monthly meetings at the Millennium Centre, Raheen on the first Wednesday of each month, commencing at 8pm.
ALZHEIMER SOCIETY: Parishioners involved with the care of a family member or friend, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, are reminded that the Limerick Branch of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland is holding its next Carers meeting at the Society’s Day Care Centre, Kilmurry Court, Garryowen, Limerick on Wednesday, December 4, from 7 to 8pm. All are welcome to attend. Many residents in this area are involved with the care of a family member or friend, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, and reminders regarding the monthly meetings for Carers are included in these Notes. A reminder - a local telephone service is available, at 061-313456, between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
REMEMBRANCE TREE - RAHEEN: Parishioners are invited to place the names of their deceased relatives and friends on the Remembrance Tree which has been placed in Raheen Church, using the cards which are located there for this purpose. Those whose names are placed on the Tree will be remembered at Prayers during this Month of The Holy Souls.
SANTA LETTERS:For the past number of years, the “Santa Letters” project in the Parish has been a remarkable sucess; this year’s project has been underway for a few weeks at this stage. Anyone interested in becoming involved is requested to leave their name and contact details on lists which are available in the Church. The purpose of the project, once again, is to arrange the donation of Christmas presents to children attending a School in Limerick which is designated with underprivileged status. It is hoped that Parishioners will respond with their customary generosity again in 2013.
HOLY SOULS ENVELOPES: Supplies of Holy Souls (Purgatorial) envelopes, otherwise known as November List Of The Dead envelopes, which include cards on which Parishioners can list the names of deceased relatives and friends, are still available in the three Churches of the Parish - Mungret, Crecora and Raheen. Completed cards, together with offerings, can be returned to the Church in the same envelopes. These names will be included in the Altar List Of The Dead for the coming year; Priests of the parish will each celebrate fifteen masses during the year for those names included on the List.
PARISH CLERK: Envelopes for the Raheen Parish Clerk’s collection have been distributed in relevant areas of the Parish. Any envelope distributor who has not yet collected a supply of envelopes for their particular area should do so as soon as possible. A small supply of envelopes is also available in the Church porch.
CHILDRENS MASS: Rehearsals for the Children’s Mass, which is celebrated on a number of Sundays throughout the year at 11am in Raheen Church, are held on Thursday evenings, from 6.30pm until 7.15pm, in the Church, and all children residing in the Parish, regardless of which school they are attending, are welcome to become involved.
FUNDRAISER - “ CHRISTMAS FAIR”: For the purpose of helping to create awareness of the illness Fibromyalgia, a fundraising Christmas Fair is being held at the Millennium Centre, Raheen on Friday next, December 6, from 10.30am until 12.30pm. A bake sale, Christmas gifts, handmade cards and crafts will feature in the event and young people will have an opportunity to have their photos taken with Santa.
