SYMPATHY: We offer our sympathy to Paul, Marita and Alma Harte, on the recent death of their mother Ita nee Murtagh, of Rhebogue Avenue, Irish Estates. Ita was laid to rest following 12 noon Mass in St. Nicholas’ Church on Tuesday last.
PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK: : Our annual parish pilgrimage to Knock will be on Saturday August 17. Bus leaving St. Nicholas’ Church At 8.30a.m. Further details through the parish newsletter or from Emily: 345681. This is always a very enjoyable and spiritual day for all taking part.
OLD SPECTACLES / GLASSES: If you have some glasses/ spectacles that you no longer use or that have been replaced by new ones, the International Lions Club is collecting them for developing countries, where they will be of great benefit. Old spectacles can be dropped into a box in the porch of the Dooradoyle library.
RIO IN DUBLIN: Rio-In-Dublin – is a response to a request by young people who have been to previous World Youth Day’s, but are unable to attend this WYD in Rio de Janeiro in July. A working group made up of representatives of former WYD pilgrims, Diocesan Staff, Youth Leaders, Members of Faith based organisations and movements, with special support of the Capuchin Community of Church St – have been working for a few weeks on a proposal to host a mini-WYD – style event in Dublin Rio in Dublin 27-28 July 2013 – Capuchin Friary, Church St Dublin 7 STAGE 1: Email us and express your interest – we will be back to you! Option 3: Magis Ireland social immersion project (Friday and Saturday July 26 and 27) then joining Rio in Dublin for Pilgrim walk and an all night vigil on Saturday July 27 plus Sunday programme on Sunnday July 28 What will happen during Rio-In-Dublin?
There are three options highlighted above. Essentially young people are invited to participate in different ways during Rio-In-Dublin. Some may want to get involved from Friday – Sunday. This option will provide an amazing experience of service, reflecting on our faith and trying to understand the challenge of the Gospel. Magis Ireland are co-ordinating this element. Another option is for young people (18+) to attend the Vigil in a WYD style, consisting of a pilgrim walk, arrival in Church St, participation in a vigil consisting of prayer, music, workshops, time to reflect and Video Links to events in Rio.
On Sunday – younger people will be welcome to participate and get some of the flavor of WYD. There will be events led by the Brazilian Catholic community in Dublin, music, prayer, mass and much more
ADORATION: 24 hour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament St. Nicholas’ Church will commence again on ThursdaySeptember 5. Each Thursday evening until then there will be adoration until 11.00-p.m..
SCOUT: The Scout group based in Shannon Banks, is experiencing a demand for membership to the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. To increase the membership of the group extra leaders are needed in all sections. They are appealing to all adults in the area to offer their support to the group. MOTHERS & TODDLERS: They meet on Tuesdays in St. Nicholas’ parish centre every Tuesday from 10.30 to 12.30. This is an ideal opportunity for young parents to meet, chat and have a cuppa together
