EASTER!: The Easter Sunday for the Orthodox Church falls on Sunday and on Saturday May 4 members of the Orthodox community living locally will gather in SS John & Paul church at 2pm for the blessing of the Pascha baskets which is part of the Orthodox Easter traditions.

LIMERICK RUN: Best of luck to all those Shannon runners and walkers who will be taking part in the various events in the Limerick Run on Sunday.

ART EXHIBITION: An exhibition by members of the Art Circle in the Family Resource Centre will be on display in the Library from May 1 to May 13. The exhibition includes drawings and paintings by 12 adults celebrating the Bealtaine Festival.

MAYOR’S BALL: The annual Mayor’s Ball was launched last week by Mayor of Shannon Michael Fleming. Clare Crusaders were nominated as the beneficiary. The date for your diary is Friday May 24 in the Oakwood Arms Hotel. The evening will begin with a wine reception that will be sponsored by the Shannon Knights and entertainment will be provided by the Shannon Gospel Choir. The band will be Memphis and there will also be a disco. Tickets available from the Town Hall.

MISSION: The Parish Mission with Sr. Briege McKenna will start on Pentecost Sunday May 19 and conclude on Friday May 24. A conducted Hour of Prayer is held each Monday night from 8pm-9pm in The Adoration Chapel to pray for the parish mission.

FIRST COMMUNION: The Sacrament of First Holy Communion will be celebrated for St. Senan’s School in Mary Immaculate Church on Saturday at 12noon.

VISITATIONS: The sick and housebound will be visited with the sacraments on this Friday. Any parishioner who knows of someone who is housebound and who would like to receive the Sacraments should please contact the Parish Office or any of the Priests. An additional Mass is held in Convent Oratory at 8am on the First Friday.

AGRICULTURAL SHOW: This weekend the Newmarket –on-Fergus Agricultural Show will take place on Sunday. Jumping commences at 10am sharp, show classes at 10.30am. There will be a Dog show at 1.30pm. There will be a farmers market, tug of war, bouncing castles, trade stands and much more to entertain.

CEREMONY: Those who volunteered to help with the Mission were invited to a gathering Ceremony in Mary Immaculate church on Wednesday evening. Bishop Kieran SMA commissioned volunteers to visit homes in the parish.

CONFIRMATION: The Parish of Shannon held the first of three Confirmation ceremonies on Friday afternoon when 49 children from St. Senan’s, St Tola’s, Gael Scoil Donncha Rua and St John’s schools received the Sacrament. Fr. Tom was delegated by Bishop Kieran to administer the Sacrament in Mary Immaculate church.

On Saturday morning the children from St. Aidan’s School gathered in SS John & Paul church for the celebration of the Sacrament. After the Ceremony the children and their families returned to the school for refreshments, a tradition in St. Aidan’s since its foundation. In the afternoon the children from St. Conaire’s gathered in SS John & Paul Church for the final ceremony of the day when 54 children received the Sacrament. Congratulations to all.

HOSPITAL VISITS: The Priests of the parish are happy to visit Parishioners in hospital but need to be advised as otherwise they won’t know. In the past the hospitals would have given out the information.

REQUEST: Clare County Council is asking voluntary groups/volunteers and others who visit people in vulnerable households: a) To identify homes where there are no smoke alarms (e.g. the elderly, people with disabilities, lone parents and unemployed b) To install alarms. Applications are also welcome from individual vulnerable households who currently have no smoke alarms and are in a position to install the alarms themselves. KNIT: The Sit & Knit Women’s Circle meets on Tuesdays evenings at 7.30pm in the Family Resource Centre, Respond Building. Meet, mingle and trade yarns with local knitters (includes crochet and tapestry). Knitters are welcome any Tuesday, for further information phone 061 707600.

BLESSING: A Blessing for expectant parents will take place in The Jubilee Chapel of Mary Immaculate Church on Wednesday night May 8 at 9pm. Everybody welcome.

LOURDES: Bishop Kieran will lead this year’s Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes from June 26 to July 1. At €670 it is the cheapest Diocesan pilgrimage price out of Ireland in this the Centenary year of the First Irish Pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1913. Flights will be departing from Shannon Airport. DEVOTIONS: The Alliance of the Two Hearts Devotions will take place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 May in SS John & Paul Church from 7pm to 3am.

MONTHS MIND: The months mind mass for Maree Duffy, Cronan Gardens and Conor Harty, Dun an Oir will be on Saturday at 6.30pm in Ss John & Paul church.

RECENT DEATHS: Sympathy to the family of Packie Keyes, Tullyglass Court who was buried on last Monday. To Bernard Walsh, Tullyglass Hill on the death of his brother Greg Walsh, Kilrush. May they rest in peace.
