Church Notes: Reader for the Month of May at Meanus Mass is Margaret O Rourke.

The Month’s Mind Mass for the late Michael O Dwyer will be held in Meanus on this Saturday night, 4th May at 7.30 p.m.

Confirmation: Newly appointed Bishop of Limerick, Dr. Brendan Leahy, visited St Peter and Paul’s Church, Bruff on last Friday morning where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to sixty eight children who were attending Scoil Dean Cussen, Bruff. The Bishop was assisted by Canon Costello and Fr. Joe Foley. Children from Meanus who received the Sacrament were Philip Corbett, Tara Coffey, Maeve Barry, Jerry Quaid, Daire Brady, Mark Meade, Aisling Hehir, Heather Curtin, Aine Foley, Adam Kirby, Gearoid O Leary and Kate Bateman. Darragh O Brien who attends school in Mungret also received his Confirmation in Raheen Church recently.

Gala Week-End: Arrangements are being made by Meanus Social Club for the Gala Week-End which they are holding on 28th, 29th and 30th June. Events will include a Family Quiz on the Friday night, a fun Walk/Run on Saturday morning, a musical evening on Saturday night. A sports day will be held in the Sportsfield on Sunday preceded by a fancy dress parade. A duck race will be held on the river on Sunday evening and the weekend activities will finish with a gala card game on Sunday night. As this is the year of the Gathering the committee felt it should be marked in some way so a fine weekend is hoped for when everybody can come out and celebrate with their family and friends.

Dog Night: There is just one week to go to the Bruff Community Playground Fundraising “Family Night at the Dogs” which is being held at Limerick Greyhound Race Track on Saturday night, 11th May. Support to date has been tremendous both within the Parish and the surrounding areas. Tickets at €10 each are on sale door to door and at Nagles Spar Supermarket or by calling 086 3142030. Children go free. Highlights of the night will include the auction of a sapling Greyhound Pup which has been donated by renowned Kilkenny Greyhound trainer, Paul Hennessy, a Best Dressed Lady’s competition and a super raffle with a first prize of a 15 month Angus heifer. A great family night’s entertainment is assured and support would be gratefully appreciated.

Cards continue each Sunday night in Meanus commencing at 8.30p.m. and everybody welcome.

Set Dancing: which is held every Wednesday night in Meanus is now finished until the Autumn. Sincere thanks to John Roache who is the tutor and supplies the music and to all who attended. Looking forward to seeing you all again in the Autumn.

Board Na nOg: Our U16 Hurlers had a good win over Hospital/Herbertstown with fine scores from Paul O Riordan, Kyle Dillon and John Bateman which saw them win on a scoreline of 6.10 to 2.6 Next up is an away fixture against Cappamore on Monday 6th May at 7 p.m. Thirty of our U 10 players attended a Blitz in Bruree on last Saturday and had some great games against Croom and Bruree. Some fine scores came from Johs Keating, Darragh Butler and Diarmuid Dennehy. Others to shine were Oisin Mulqueen, James Callinan, thomas Lillis and Patrick Finn. Our U12 hurlers host Monaleen on Thursday 9th May at 6.45 p.m.
