VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS SOUGHT FOR THE GATHERING: As part of The Gathering 2013, Volunteer Ireland is looking for Volunteer Ambassadors for Limerick to provide a warm Irish welcome to visitors during this year’s busy tourist season. This is a fun and exciting opportunity to greet visitors from across the globe and show them why Limerick is one of the best places in the world to visit! Volunteer Ireland is looking for friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable volunteers who aren’t afraid to actively approach visitors and provide information about upcoming Gathering events in the local area. Volunteers must be over 18, have fluent English and should be available to volunteer for one two-hour shift per week (Wednesday to Saturday) between May 24 and August 3. WEST LIMERICK CONNECTS: West Limerick Connects is a free phone call service operating out of three Day Care Centres in West Limerick (Abbeyfeale, Glin and Newcastle West). Through this project, phone calls are made to older people who may be living alone, at a fixed time every week to check on their well being and inform them of local events and services. NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK: As part of National Volunteer Week, Limerick Volunteer Centre will be organising a volunteer team to participate in an Outdoor Painting Project in Adapt Domestic Abuse Services, Rosbrien, Limerick on Thursday May 16 from 9.30am – 3pm. ADAPT operates the country’s largest refuge facility which provides emergency accommodation for women and children who have to leave their homes due to domestic abuse. The play area / garden, for the children who live in the refuge, is in much need of paint work and Limerick Volunteer Centre are hoping to recruit up to 20 volunteers to help with the project. KNOCKAINEY AFC FESTIVAL 2013: Knockainey AFC is celebrating its 20 year anniversary by holding a Festival this June bank holiday weekend to celebrate youth, sport and community. We have come together with Bruff Rugby Club to use their excellent facilities. The Program of Events for the Weekend include Friday 31 May, Jimmy Buckley & his Band, Doors open at 8:30pm. Saturday 1 June, 1pm: 5km Fun Run/Walk & 10km Run. Registration from 12pm, 2pm: Family Fun Day, 8pm: Poker Classic. Sunday 2 June, 1pm: Food/Craft Fair, 3pm: Monster Bingo €2,000 Jackpot, 9pm: Parish Social with music by Nightfall & friends. Monster raffle running all weekend with the draw on Sunday night at 10pm. ADARE COMMUNITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICE: The Adare Community Council have now set up a Community Information Office based in the Village Hall. Currently a Data base of all local services, clubs and amenities as well as a Community Event Diary are being developed, so if you would like to submit up to date information about your organisation please ring 0894348105 or email

ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: Adare Mother and Toddler Group is held in the upstairs room in the Heritage Centre. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in the afore mentioned age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! MEETINGS:There is a closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) in the C.B.S National School,Rathkeale Rd, Adare every Sunday night at 8:30 for anyone who might think they have a problem with alcohol or who need help to stop drinking. PARISH WEBSITE: has news of the parish, schools, marriage information, etc. It is a very comprehensive website with a lot of local parish information. There will also be a virtual tour of the church upon completion of the restoration project.

ADARE MARKET: Adare County Market is held every Saturday from 10am to 2pm in front of the Village Hall. There are a wide variety of artisan, homemade goods for sale which including Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Home Baking, Handknits, Handmade Greeting Cards and Jewellery, Free Range Eggs, Homemade Jams (Seasonal), Handmade Crafts including an Alterations Service.
