WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: On Friday March 1, women (and men as well) come together throughout the world to pray, to express the desires of their hearts to God. Traditionally here in Adare the different Christian Denominations host the day of prayer – this year it is the turn of Holy Trinity Church. You are welcome at 10.30am in church and for light refreshments afterwards in the Heritage Centre.
ADARE COMMUNITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICE: The Adare Community Council have now set up a Community Information Office based in the Village Hall. Opening hours at present are 10am to 4pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. ST NICHOLAS’ NATIONAL SCHOOL: St Nicholas’ National School is hosting an open afternoon at 3.30pm and an open evening at 8.00pm on Tuesday 26 February in the school. The school is now taking enrolments for September.
ADARE UNITED TABLE QUIZ: Adare United will be holding a table quiz on Saturday March 2 in Sean Collins Bar at 8.30 p.m. Entry fee will be €40.00 for a team of four.
LIMERICK WEST GIY: Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food will hold its February meeting on Thursday February 21 at 7.00pm sharp in D&M Garden Centre, Croagh with new growers and old hands all welcome. This month’s talk will be given by Rachael O’Grady who will speak about fruit trees. With the new growing season starting to get into gear this talk will be excellent for both the new grower and the experienced old hands. There will also be a small piece about potatoes with the emphasis on taste, disease resistance etc. GIY’s vision is for a healthier, more connected and more sustainable world where people grow their own food. KNOCKFIERNA RAMBLING HOUSE: The very popular Knockfierna Rambling House will hold a special night of storytelling, music, singing etc at Kilfinny Community hall on Friday March 1 at 8pm. MASS READERS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND ALTAR SERVERS: The Mass Readers for this weekend are Saturday, 7.00 First Holy Communion Parents, Sunday, 9.30 Pat O’Connell and 11.30 Eileen O’Byrne. The Eucharistic Ministers are Saturday, 7.00 Mary O’Connor and Helen Gleeson, Sunday, 9.00 Gabriel Higgins and 11.30 Mary Moore and Sean Fitzgibbon. The altar servers are Team G on Saturday and Team B on Sunday at 11.30.
ADARE CLOTH OF PAIN: During Lent, the Adare Parish Liturgy Committee want to put together a ‘Cloth of Pain’ representing the pain and hurt of parishioners and to bring it to Jesus on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We ask you to donate pieces of cloth (8-10inches sq. approx.) which will be made into a patchwork quilt. A basket will be left in front of the altar. There will be a special service on Friday 22 March in Holy Trinity Abbey Church based on the theme ‘The Seven Last Words’ of Jesus from the cross.

THE WITNESS: The Witness, a musical by Carol & Jimmy Owens, is the story of Jesus, told and sung by Peter and the other men and women who knew the Master best. Featuring a great cast and coordinated by Fr. Terry Loughran. “The Witness” will be presented by the Diocese of Limerick, in the Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 March at 8pm. This production which is being staged just before Easter is an ideal opportunity for parishes, youth groups, as well as individuals to participate in a meaningful and relevant way in the Year of Faith and to enter into the spirit of the season of preparation for the events of Holy Week. ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: Adare Mother and Toddler Group is held in the upstairs room in the Heritage Centre. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in the afore mentioned age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! MEETINGS: There is a closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) in the C.B.S National School, Rathkeale Rd, Adare every Sunday night at 8:30 for anyone who might think they have a problem with alcohol or who need help to stop drinking. ADARE MARKET: Adare County Market is held every Saturday from 10am to 2pm in front of the Village Hall. There are a wide variety of artisan, homemade goods for sale which including Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Home Baking, Handknits, Handmade Greeting Cards and Jewellery, Free Range Eggs, Homemade Jams (Seasonal), Handmade Crafts including an Alterations Service. ADARE VILLAGE HALL NEWS: A great night was had by all with “A Wake in the West”, a fantastic production last Friday night at the Hall. Congratulations to Feohanagh-Castlemahon Players and all concerned in making the night such a success. The Hall is synonymous now with these plays, what a wonderful night’s entertainment! Watch this space for further productions on the way. We are blessed too in the Village to have our very own drama Group “The Maigue Players”, who are looking for new local recruits. There is a play in the pipeline from this very talented group. We are hoping to have a table quiz in Lena’s for the Village Hall on March 1, details will follow. St. Patricks Day will be lively in the Village with St Patrick visiting the village with his snake, A Best Dressed Leprechaun competition for Children, judged by Richard from I love Limerick and Lydia Turley Miss Spin South West.
