MATCH REPORT: North Kerry Championship – Tarbert can once again thank Ambrose Lanigan for snatching a late equalizer against Brosna in the first round of the North Kerry championship played in Listowel last Saturday. Brosna started the game well and were up three points after ten minutes with one awarded point very dubious indeed. Tarbert reduced the deficit thanks to excellent points by John O’Connell, Shane Enright and Niall Stack before Gerard O’Sullivan put Tarbert one up after twenty minutes. Points from Paddy O’Connell and another from Gerard O’Sullivan put Tarbert 0-6 to 0-4 up at half time and looking in control of the game. From the restart Niall Stack increased the lead with Tarbert being dominant in all positions. Whether Tarbert got tired or Brosna raised their game, Brosna then took complete control of the game, playing some excellent football and were four points up and cruising with only minutes left on the clock. Then a long ball in from Shane Enright was broken down by Donal Leahy and who else pops up but Ambrose Lanigan to score a smashing goal off his left boot to give the large Tarbert crowd at last something to cheer about. From the kick out and similar to those heroic scores of 2010 up steps Ambrose again to score the equalizing point. It was now Brosna who were under pressure and Tarbert then had chances to even steal the winner. All in all a draw was a fair result and Tarbert once again showed their true fighting spirit despite being outplayed for most of the second half. Team: Tommy Barrett, Jason Wren, Ambrose Lanigan (1-1), Daniel O’ Connor, Kieran Denihan, Shane Enright (0-1), Ian Flavin, John O’ Connell (0-1) Kevin Enright, Niall Stack(0-2), Danny Wren, Ger O’Sullivan (0-2), Patsy O’ Connell (0-2) Donal Leahy, John Kelliher, Subs: Kevin Wren for John O’ Connell, Eugene O’Connell for Niall Stack, Michael Carrig for Kevin Wren (inj.), Niall Foley, Fionn Scannell, Mark Buckley, Andrew Doherty, Evan Allen, John Holly, Jack Finucane.
