The Gathering in Ballygiblin: The gathering in Ballygiblin will take place on Friday June 21st and Saturday June 22. Inviting all past pupils, band and dance troupes, past and present GAA members family and friends. There will be special celebrations for the Ballygiblin hurling teams of 1963 and 1993. There is an opportunity to own your own plot in Ballygiblin.
The programme for Friday is Mass celebrated in old school by former past pupil priests 8pm. This will be followed by blessing and official opening of the new extension to the school. Refreshments will be served that night. On Saturday there will be novelty matches in the pitch from 2pm. The old school will be open with exhibition of old photos, roll books and memorabilia, If you have any old photos or material forward then to Ballygiblingathering@eircom.net There will be a Variety Concert in the Firgrove Hotel that Saturday night with local acts and Comhaltas followed by a social with Oliver and Tony. Adm is €10.
Festival of the Galtees: The 38th annual Festival of the Galtees was held in Mitchelstown over the June week end. Weather conditions were excellent all through with large crowds attending the various events. On Saturday there is a cake sale in the Square. Baby Show, Doll Show and Teddies. Children’s Fancy Dress Parade 6.30pm from James Street on Sunday there was a Dog Show, Best dressed lady competition. On Sunday night there was the usual parade from Baldwin St at 8.30pm with the crowning of King Michael Creed.
Kildorrery hurlers win: Kildorrery Intermediate hurlers in their first year in Intermediate grade had a close win over Milford on Sunday in the Co championship in Charleville. They had their goal just before half time that gave them an interval lead 1-9 to 0- 10. During the second half Kildorrery held a slight lead all through and emerged winners by 1-20 to 1-18. Corpus Christi Procession: The annual Corpus Christi Procession was held in Mitchelstown on Sunday last. There was a large attendance. The route Church Hill, Upper Cork St., James St., Georges St., Baldwin St., Lower Cork St., and finish with benediction in New Square. Sincere thanks to the stewards and Gardai for ensuring traffic was organised for the event.
Information Night: There will be an Information night for parents of incoming pupils to Mitchelstown Primary School at trhe School Hall on this Thursday night June 6 8pm.
Kilbehenny Cycling: Kilbehenny Cycling club will host a fundraising cycle this Sunday June 9th with proceeds to the newly refurbished Kilbehenny Community Hall. There will be 3 cycles on the day catering for all levels of fitness.
80 kms ‘Tour of the Galtees’ for very fit people, 50 kms for moderately fit cyclists and 15 kms for family fun cyclists. The entry fee for the 80 and 50 kms is €20 for over 16 and €10 for under 16s. The 15 km cost is adult €10 and €15 family.
Refreshments will be served on route for the longer cycles and all routes will be catered for at a reception in the Community Hall on completion of cycle. Certificates will be presented to the successful participants.
The late Peg Howard: The death occurred peacefully on May 28 at St Patrick’s Church Fermoy of Margaret (peg) Howard Clonkilla Mitchelstown. The late Peg (Nee O Flaherty) was a member of a well known family in the area. She was pre deceased by her husband Matt. There was a large attendance at the removal on Wednesday evening from O’Brien’s Funeral Home Mitchelstown to Kilacluig Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Thursday. Interment took place to Mitchelstown Church Cemetery. To her daughters Mary (Casey) Eileen, son in law Donie, sister in law Eliza O’Flaherty grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephew, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.

Park United FC Lotto: There was no winner of teh jackpot of €3,200 last week end. The winning numbers were 1,7,13 & 21. Three match 3 shared €150 each receiving €50 as follows – Mary McGrath c/o Nellie, Caroline Barrett c/o Johnny Crowley, Pat Lane c/o Paul Roche’s.
Galtee Gaels through to league final: Galtee Gaels Junior footballers had a 3-8 to 1- 8 win over Castletown-Ballyagran last week end. The will now play Camogue Rovers in the final. The panel in the semi final were : P J Moloney, P Cleary, R Fitzgerald, K Hogan, S O’ Donovan, R Breedy, D Dwyer, T Childs, J Cleary, P Gallahue, K Lane, S McGrath, P Cronin, T O’Dwyer, D O’Halloran, M Leonard, J M Fitzgerald.
