LIMERICK SOCIAL SERVICES: The annual Diocesan collection in aid of Limerick Social Service Centre will be taken up, as a second collection, at Masses in the Parish this weekend, 18/19 January . The Centre, whose function is to promote the dignity and growth of individuals, families and groups within the Diocese of Limerick, provides an information and contact service for the various voluntary Social organisations; it�s work includes the provision of Assistance for Young Parents, Counselling Services (including free access to qualified Counsellors), Creche provision, a Parent/Teen Mother Support programme, a Family Advocacy service, a variety of services for the Elderly. as well as many other areas of support and assistance. Parishioners are encouraged to be generous in their response to this annual appeal for a very worthy service, which has been in operation in the Limerick region since 1967.
MPCC CREDIT UNION: Local residents who are members of the MPCC Credit Union, which has offices in Dooradoyle, Mungret, Patrickswell and Clarina, are reminded that the Annual General Meeting is being held on Monday next, 20 January, in Ballybrown Community Resource Centre, Clarina, commencing at 8pm. The Board of Directors of MPCC Credit Union invites all members to attend the annual general meeting each year, as this is an important annual forum where suggestions and queries from members are welcome. Refreshments will be served, and a draw for members will take place on the night. Local residents who are members of MPCC are encouraged to attend the AGM.
BLOOD DONATION CLINIC: The next Blood Donation clinic in this locality will be held on Tuesday next week, 21 January, from 5pm to 8pm, at the South Court Hotel, Raheen. Regular donors are requested to please note this date and time, and to continue to support this vital service to others. A total of one hundred and twenty five donors attended the corresponding Clinic in December. New donors are always especially welcome. WEEKLY ENVELOPE BOXES: Weekly envelope boxes, containing envelopes for each Sunday of the year 2013, have been now distributed throughout the Parish; any Parishioner who has not been supplied with a box of envelopes, and who would wish to receive one, is welcome to contact the Parish Office, tel. 061-210869.
RAHEEN TOASTMASTERS: Raheen Toastmasters Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, 21 January, at the local South Court Hotel, Raheen. The club meets at this venue on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, from 8pm to 10pm. Anyone interested in availing of an opportunity to improve their communications skills, to prepare speeches, make presentations, �think on their feet� and generally to enjoy public speaking, as well as to make new friends, is welcome to come along to any of these meetings. CHILDRENS MASS: Rehearsals for the Children’s Mass, which is celebrated on a number of Sundays throughout the year at 11am in Raheen Church, resume this Thursday evening, 16 January. Rehearsala are held in St. Nessan’s Church, on Thursday evenings from 6pm until 7.15pm, and all children residing in the Parish, regardless of which school they are attending, are welcome to become involved.
CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING: Local residents are reminded that the Recycling Centre at Mungret accepts Christmas trees for recycling; the Centre can be contacted, if necessary, for details, tel. 305720. By way of helping to protect the environment, not only Christmas trees but all other Christmas-related items such as gift wrappings, not already disposed of, should be recycled.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: The local St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes to thank all those who responded so generously to the Society’s recent Christmas Appeal, whether by way of financial donations, food parcels, the donation of toys or in any other way. Once again, the generosity of Parishioners was particularly appreciated at Christmas time, and especially in the current climate of hardship for so many. The Society also wishes to express its sincere gratitude to those who contributed to their monthly collections throughout 2013, and to all who continue to support its many activities.
“HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF LIMERICK”: A most interesting, and unique, “Illustrated History of the Diocese of Limerick” has recently been published and is now available throughout the Diocese. Part 1 of the book consists of a history of the Diocese of Limerick, while Part 2 incorporates a brief history of all sixty Parishes located within the Diocese, with particular references, including illustrations, to the Churches located within each Parish. The Book is available for sale in each Parish and any local Parishioner who would like to purchase a copy should contact the Parish Office in Raheen, tel. 210869. The normal reduced cost is �20 per copy, but for the month of January it is a case of “buy one get one free”! In fact, any Parishioner who has already purchased a copy of the Book can avail of this offer retrospectively. It is a beautiful production, and would enhance any coffee table.

NESSAN�’S PRIMARY SCHOOL: Parents wishing to have their child enrolled in the Junior Infant classes at St. Nessan�s Primary School, Mungret for the school year 2013/2014 are requested to note that the closing date for receipt of completed applications for that year is Monday, 3 February, 2014. Applications received after that deadline will not be processed. SET DANCING: Set Dancing classes resumed earlier this week at Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse. Classes take place on Tuesday evenings at 9pm; beginners are welcome.
“MARANATHA”: The Maranatha Prayer Ministry invites anyone who is interested to a Healing Retreat which is taking place this Sunday, 19 January, from 2.30pm to 7pm at St. Paul’s Church in Dooradoyle. The event will include Mass, the Rosary, Inner Healing Prayers, Eucharistic Adoration and Confession. Music for the occasion will be provided by the Maranatha Gospel Choir. Everyone is welcome, and a cup of tea will be provided afterwards in the adjoining Hall. CHRISTMAS DUES: The Priests of the Parish would like to express their appreciation to those Parishioners who have already contributed their Christmas Dues. A number of Christmas Dues envelopes are still available in the three Churches of the Parish - Raheen, Mungret and Crecora.
