JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR: Shannon Musical Society is currently finalising preparations for this year’s show, which will run in St Patrick’s Comprehensive school from February 16 to 22. This year the production is Jesus Christ Superstar.

Director this year is Galway man Sean Power, Sean will choreograph along with Karen Barrett, while musical direction is once again in the capable hands of Carmel Griffin.

WOLFE TONES: Wolfe Tones launched a new system for selling tickets for the weekly lotto fundraising draw. They hope to target the more technical minded members with fancy phones who might like to give it a go.

WEDDINGS: Congratulations to Aisling McKee, Tullyvarraga Court and Joey Lorigan, Kilmihil who were married in Ss John & Paul church on Friday. To Emma Bowen, Inis Beag, and Jonathan Lye, Bruff, who were married in SS John & Paul Church.

SET DANCING: St Senan’s Social Club hold set-dancing classes in The Bellsfort Inn every Tuesday night at 8.30pm. Mike Mahony is the tutor and all are welcome.

SENIOR’S AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Shannon Senior Citizen’s Club will take place on Wednesday January 29 at 3pm in their premises at 9 Purcell Park. All members are requested to attend. Please note that once again this year the meeting will be held on a Wednesday.

The Club’s annual dinner dance will be held on Wednesday February 5 at The Oakwood Arms Hotel. Tickets are available from committee members.. Family and friends who are not attending the dinner are welcome to go along and enjoy the dancing from 8.30pm. Always a good community social event.

PARISH DATES: Confirmation and First Communion dates have been announced for 2014 as follows: Confirmation – Friday 23 May at 4pm St Aidan’s N.S.; Saturday May 24 at 10.30am St Conaire’s N.S. and at 2.30pm St Senan’s N.S.

First Communion: Saturday May 10 St Conaire’s N.S. at 11am in SS John & Paul church and for St Tola’s N.S at 11am in Mary Immaculate. Communion for Gael Scoil Donncha Rua will also be on May 10 at 1pm.Saturday, May 17 St Senan’s N.S. at 12 noon. Saturday May 21 St Aidan’s N.S. at 11am.

UNWANTED GIFTS: The Apostolic Workers would appreciate unwanted Christmas gifts people may have or bric-a-brac for their next Sale of Work in May. Contact Marguerite at 364647 or any member.

CHESS: Shannon Chess Club has resumed for the new season and meets every Friday evening at 6.300pm in Shannon Library. New members are welcome.

BLESSING: The annual Blessing of Babies for the New Year took place on Sunday afternoon in Ss John & Paul church. Last year 125 babies were baptised in the parish.

FIRST COMMUNION: Preparation for First communion will begin on Sunday at 10am Mass for St Aidan’s school and at 11am mass for St Senan’s school.

BACK TO EDUCATION: For Adults interested in returning to learning: Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, formerly Co. Clare VEC’s Back to Education Initiative will be starting courses in Employability Skills, Horticulture, Healthcare and Information Technology in January and February 2014 at the Adult Education Centre in 4 Bru Na Sionna, Shannon. BASKETBALL: Shannon Phoenix Basketball Club training, for ages 16 and up, continues at the Leisure Centre each Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. New members are always welcome.

MONTHS MIND: The months mind mass for Eileen McDonald, Gort na Ri will be on Thursday evening at 7pm in SS John & Paul church. For the late Said Doyle, Woodpark, Newmarket on Fergus Sunday at 12.15pm also in Ss John & Paul church.

RUGBY: St Senan’s RFC junior men’s team start the New Year at the top of their league and they will host Youghal at Jimmy Slattery Park on Saturday, January 18.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY: The first anniversary mass for John O’Connor, 11 Collins Park will be on Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Ss John & Paul church.

AWARE VOLUNTEER: Aware are looking for people who would be interested in training for volunteering with the association. Applications before February 15 via the Aware website
