SPECIAL MASS FOR HOLY SOULS : A special Mass was celebrated on Saturday evening last 2 November at 6.30pm for the souls departed and for the souls of parishioners of Kilfinane who died during the past year, as follows : Jack Hennessy (Vale View) Patricia O’Dea (St Anne’s Terrace & Scotland), Josephine Fitzgerald nee O’Keefe, (Vale View), Baby Bobby, Sean Fitzgerald (Thomastown & Mitchelstown), Brendan Ryan (Low Bridge & London), Jane McDonagh (Glebe Road & Croagh), Kevin McMahon (Ballinacrana). Michael Halpin (High Bridge). Peg Foley (Ballyhoura Heights) Lizzy McGrath (Ballinlyna), Patricia Conerney (Nee Quinlan,) High Bridge & Enniskerry, Co Wicklow A. J. Vaughan, Kitty Howard (Lower Main Street), John O’Brien (St. Anne’s Terrace), David O’Connor (Ballinlyna House). Family, friends and neighbours were present in a very large congregation at the Mass. Families had given in a photograph of their loved one advance of this Mass which will be displayed before the Altar for the month of November, and a candle was brought to the altar by a family member or friend of those who died in the past year to be put beside the photograph. The Choir under the baton of Sr. Patricia added to the ceremony. Prayers were also recited at The Cemetery on Sunday morning last 3 November in memory of those buried there.

CONGRATULATIONS : For the second month in a row a locals has won €5,000 in the Limerick GAA Development Draw. In the October Draw held in Ballylanders, Pascal Clancy (Ballyroe Lower) won the second Prize of €5,000, while on Friday night last in the November Draw held in The Croke Bar in Croagh, Pascal O Connor, St Anne’s Terrace, won the €5,000 second prize
MINOR HURLERS WIN SOUTH TITLE : On Wednesday evening last October 30 at Kilbreedy, Sean Og Hanley’s (Blackrock/Glenroe) played Killacolla Gaels in the South Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship final, when the sides met earlier in the championship it was the Bruree/Castletown Ballyagran combination that emerged winners by the narrowest of margins 0.21 to 1.17, so a close encounter in the final was anticipated. Sean Og Hanley’s opened the scoring with a pointed free from Dylan Dawson, Kilacolla Gaels replied with two pointed frees before Paudie Lawlor from play and a Donnacha Leahy free restored the Sean Og Hanley’s lead, both sides exchanged points from free’s, Donnacha Leahy the Sean Og Hanley’s scorer. The game took a turn when Dean Brazill found the net from outfield for the winners, and a pointed free from Donnacha Leahy followed by a goal from Darren McCarthy had Sean Og Hanley’s eight points ahead, both sides registered a point each from free’s to leave the interval score Sean Og Hanley’s 2.06. Kilacolla Gaels 0.04. The second half saw Sean Og Hanley’s dominate and they added six further points from Brian O’Connell (1), Donnacha Leahy (2), Paudie Lawlor (2) and Darren McCarthy (1) while Kilacolla Gaels only reply was a pointed free to leave the full time score Sean Og Hanley’s 2.12 Kilacolla Gaels 0.05, giving Sean Og Hanley’s a place i9n the County Semi Final with Cappamore which was fixed for Sunday in Knocklong.The Sean Og Hanley’s team was Adrian O’Sullivan, Sean O’Sullivan (Capt). No Referee - No Game : On Sunday morning last 3 November, Sean Og Hanley’s travelled to Knocklong to play Cappamore on the County Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship Semi Final which was fixed for 12noon but as no referee was present the game was not played much to annoyance of both team managements, players and supporters. It is expected that the re fixture will be played on this Saturday 9 Nov. (See Fixtures in Sports Page)
