LIMERICK SOLEMN NOVENA: The annual Solemn Novena in honour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help at the Redemptorist church, Mt St Alphonsus will take place from Friday next, June 14 - Saturday June 22 with ten sessions each day between 7am and 10.30pm. Sessions will be at 7am, 8am, 10am, 11.30am, 1.10pm, 4.30pm, 6pm, 7.30pm, 9pm, & 10.30pm.

PARISH OUTING: The first of the annual parish outings will be to Dingle and Killarney and will take place on Tuesday, June 25 next. There are just some seats remaining for this very popular day out so to reserve your place contact Peg Murphy on 068 31232.

WELCOME HOME NIGHT: A press release has issued from the Glorach ‘ The Glorach Theatre Group, as part of the Gathering Festival, extends the warm hand of hospitality and a hearty céad míle fáilte by way of a Welcome Home Night on Thursday, July 18 next in Glorach. The night’s entertainment, with great variety and fun will be presented by an ensemble of talented actors, dancers, musicians and singers from the local community. A new sketch, looking at the highs and lows of following the Limerick hurling team will be performed on stage by our cast for the very first time.

In keeping with tradition the Ballaugh Wrenboys, of fame and renown, will generate the feel good factor for all when they lift the latch and take the floor. Proceeds equally to the Abbeyfeale Gathering Festival funds and to pay down the Glorach building term loan. REILIG IDE NAOFA: A clean up will be held in the graveyard on Thursday June 20 at 7pm. Please come out in force as our graveyard is really beginning to take shape. The seats were put in place during the week. Two by the crucifix and one at the opposite end of the graveyard. Thanks to those who turned up last Thursday evening, more always welcome, if you can’t be there on Thursday you might call at your convenience and tidy your own family graves and maybe if you have time you might give the one beside you a touch up if the family is no longer available to do so. A little help goes a long way. Please remember to take home any items removed from your graves as there is ......NO dumping allowed in the Graveyard.

KNOCKFIERNA: Knockfierna Heritage Society are holding their annual traditional bonfire night on Sunday June 23 proceeded by an evening of gramophone music at The Rambling House, Knockfierna. Then on the last weekend of June we celebrate the

Mannix Joyce Weekend at the Rambling House; Knockfierna Rambing House on Saturday night June 29 at 7.30pm. Sundays special guest speaker is Donnacha O’Dulaing, RTE and he will give a talk at 2pm which will be followed by walk & traditional entertainment at the Rambling House.

ABBEYFEALE RACES: Toddy Mc Mahon writes ‘The annual Abbeyfeale Races will now go ahead on the rescheduled date of Sunday, August 18 next at Relihans inch, Kilcara. We would like to thank John and Anthony Relihan for facilitating us with a new date and we look forward to a great day out for young and old with plenty of activities for the kids and loads of entertainment for the mams and dads as well. This is now established as one of the biggest days in the area and surrounding parishes and we look forward to everyone’s continued support.’

ABBEYFEALE YOUTH CLUBS: PRO Anthony Scannell reports “Teens Unite are heading to the Burren on Saturday morning leaving from the church at 6.45am sharp. The leaders night out will be July 6.”

FARMERS MARKET: The community garden has cabbage plants in trays and hardened off for the past few weeks so ready to get growing. We also have pots of herbs, tomato, cucumber and courgette plants and they will be for sale at the Farmers’ Market this Friday (as well as Brona handmade chocolate from Abbeyfeale!) .

GIY: Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food goes on the road for the next few months. First up is a visit to Bernie McEnery’s garden Moanwing in Rathkeale on Thursday, June 20 with meeting time for the garden tour scheduled for 7pm. This is a beautiful flower garden with a small vegetable part which is very stylishly designed. Wherever you look it holds your interest and is one not to be missed. Bernie is a well seasoned gardener and is always willing to share her knowledge. If you plan to attend and need directions please text your name to 0879918956.

TIMES GONE BY: There are just a few copies left of the book ‘Times Gone By’ which was recently produced in conjunction with Abbeyfeale and District Initative and launched at St. Ita’s Day Care Centre. Pupils from Scoil Mháthair Dé and St. Mary’s Boys School interviewed people attending St. Ita’s Day Care Centre and with the help of the TY students at Coláiste Íde agus Iosef put together this wonderful publication with stories of the lives of our older residents. The book is for sale from Mary on 068 31019 or the local schools. Price €5.

GRAVEYARD MAPPING: As part of the West Limerick Graveyard Mapping Project, trained volunteers will be conducting surveys in a number of graveyards across the West Limerick area for two weeks starting June 24- July 6 with the support of Eachtra Archaeological Services. The results of all surveys will be uploaded to the website historicgraves.com where they can be accessed from anywhere in the world. ARA NA FEILE ACTIVE RETIREMENT: On Monday, June 24 we are visiting the Blackhill Organic Farm in Ardagh. We will meet in the Churchyard at 10.30am and travel from there. June has been a busy month for the group. We went to see the Three Sopranos Summer Gala in University Limerick where we were entertained by three of Ireland’s finest sopranos, Celine Byrne, Regina Nathan and Cara O’Sullivan Last week we travelled to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and a great day was had by all. We were entertained with traditional folk singing and story telling. Our final meeting for the summer is on Wednesday, June 26 @ 2pm in the Adult Educational Centre and we hope to see all members as this will be a party day.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND RETRO-FITTING COURSE: West Limerick Resources is seeking expressions of interest from those interested in taking part in a four day course in Energy Management and Energy Retrofitting. The course will provide learners with grounding in the key elements that can improve the energy performance of existing buildings. The course will provide a theory primer on heat loss, energy and power and will instruct participants how to appraise a site and propose possible remedial actions. The course is free of charge and aimed at learners with a basic knowledge of buildings and building construction and is suitable for construction workers to architects, energy advisers and assessors. GATHERING: ‘’Feale the Gathering’ bands are currently on sale around town at €5 each. These can be used to gain admittance to some of the many attractions during the Gathering and the money raised will help to fund the week of celebrations.
