ORDINATION OF BISHOP-ELECT BRENDAN LEAHY: On Sunday, 14th April, 2013 at 3.00pm, Rev. Brendan Leahy will be ordained Bishop of Limerick in St. John’s Cathedral. Further details in relation to the ordination, seating allocation, liturgy, etc., will be finalised in the next few weeks and will be forwarded to you well in advance of the occasion.

BRUFF 45 CARD GAME: The 45 card game in Bruff is run by Bruff National School Parent’s Association. You are sure to receive a warm welcome, a hot cup of tea, some nice home-baking and you’d never know, you might go home financially a bit better off too! So come on to Bruff every Tuesday night in the National School starting @ 8.30pm. All are welcome.

FIRST ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK SHRINE: The Apostolate of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration have organised their First Annual Pilgrimage to Knock for Saturday 20th April 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm. All are invited. There is a notice at the back of the Church on the table at the left as you enter with a list on which you can place your name if you need transport. The full programme for the day is on the notice.

TIDY TOWNS: Spring Clean time is with us again. During the month of April, we will be undertaking our annual litter pick and clean up. We try to cover an area beginning with the town and extending to about a mile out on all approach roads. We welcome support from people who will take on their immediate area and we have a limited supply of gloves, pickers and bags for distribution. Please ring 086 3375207. At this time also householders may consider touching up boundary walls and do away with any weeds/grass in the vicinity of their property.

FASHION SHOW: On Thursday the 11th of April next, Bruff GAA will leave aside the sliothars and the footballs and instead take to the catwalk when the club holds its fundraising fashion show at 8pm in Bulgaden Castle. With a host of top range shops displaying their range of clothing, a monster raffle and a prize for the best dressed lady this promises to be a great night. The funds raised from this event will go towards the Community Playground Development, Feile Under 14 hurling and Bruff Camogie Club. Ticket prices are €10 adults, Students €5, and Children €5. BOHER MACRA: Will be hosting a Charity Alternative Table-Quiz on Friday 12th April in Hanly’s Pub, Boher at 8pm. €20 per table of 4. All proceeds on the night will go to Cliona’s Foundation, who provides financial assistance for critically ill children. There will be raffle tickets on sale on the days leading up to the quiz and on the night. There will be numerous raffle prizes and a good night is promised. KNOCKAINEY AFTERNOON TEA DANCE: Next dance on Sunday April 14th at 3pm. Music by the fabulous Sam O’Doherty. Dancing from 3pm to 6pm. Tea and refreshments will be served. Raffle on the day. Admission €5.

BRUFF COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND: Fundraising for the new community playground continues with a “Night at the Dogs” scheduled for May 11th. This promises to be a great night of family entertainment, with one of the highlights being the auction of a greyhound pup kindly donated by well-known Kilkenny trainer, Paul Hennessy. Entrance tickets are currently on sale for €10, with under 16’s being free on the night. Your support would be greatly appreciated to help get our playground built this year.

BRUFF BORD NA NOG NOTES: Our U16 footballers play Claughaun on Monday 15th. Throw in 6:45pm in Claughaun. The U12 football season starts with an away game on Thursday 18th to Galbally, Throw in 6:45pm. Hard luck to our U14 hurlers who lost out to Mungret in the Feile Na Gael last Sunday. The boys battled tirelessly throughout the game but the concession of some late goals sealed the game for Mungret . All focus will now turn to preparation for the All Ireland Feile and County Championship. Well done to the U8 hurlers and managers who took part in the first blitz of the season on a sun drenched Bruff last Saturday. We fielded 2 teams and had some great battles against Kilmallock, Bruree and Knockainey. Thanks to John O Riordan for the excellent organization of the blitz and referees Cian Mulqueen and James Meaney. Well done to all the boys who took part in the recent Easter Camp held in the GAA field. Almost 60 players turned out on both mornings, Thanks to eveyone involved who helped out with the coaching and supervision.

KNOCKAINEY LADIES FOOTBALL: Will hold their annual medal presentation and registration night on Saturday 13th April at 8pm in Knockainey Community Centre. Registration for U8s is €20 and registration for all other players is €35. New players registering must bring a copy of their birth certificates. Awards for the most improved U10, U12, U16 and minor player of the year will be presented on the night along with the U14 Walsh/Carroll Perpetual Cup. Refreshments will also be served. BRUFF TIDY TOWNS: Many thanks to all who generously contributed to the Tidy Towns collection at the weekend. These funds will be used to fill in all the flower beds around town and have it looking its best for the Gathering in July. Spring Clean will take place this coming Saturday starting at 10 am and meeting outside the Catholic Church. If we get enough volunteers, it will only take a few hours.

ARDSCOIL RIS PARENTS COUNCIL: Ardscoil Rís is celebrating 50 years in education in the academic year 2013/ 2014. We would like to hear from any past Parents Council Members with a view to building a history of the work of the Parents Council since the founding of the school. Photographs or memorabilia will be especially welcomed and all items will be returned.
