FIRST FRIDAY: This Friday, 1 February, is the First Friday of the month. Morning Mass will be celebrated in Mungret and Raheen Churches at the usual weekday times; there will be a 7.30pm Evening Mass in Raheen Church also. Holy Communion will, as usual, be brought to the sick and housebound by the Priests of the Parish.

PIONEER ASSOCIATION: The monthly meeting of the local Pioneer Centre is taking place this Friday evening, 1 February, in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone who wishes to become a Pioneer, or who is already a Pioneer and wishes to become a member of the Raheen Centre, or who wishes to obtain information regarding the services provided by the Centre, is welcome to come along to the monthly meeting.

‘KEEPING SAFE’ PROGRAMME: A Training session, with regard to the ‘Keeping Safe’ (Child Protection) Programme, is being held this Thursday evening, 31 January, at the Millennium Centre, Raheen. This Training will be of particular interest to all those working with children or vulnerable adults in the Parish. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Parish Office at 061-210869.

M P C C - SCHOOLS QUIZ: Local Schools who have entered teams in the 2013 Credit Union Schools Quiz are reminded that the local preliminary round of the Quiz has been arranged by the local MPCC Credit Union for this Friday evening, 1 February, at 8pm in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse.

RAHEEN TOASTMASTERS: Raheen Toastmasters Club will hold it’s next meeting on Tuesday, 5 February, at the Maldron Hotel, Roxboro Road, Limerick. The Club meets at this venue on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, from 8pm to 10pm; anyone interested in availing of an opportunity to improve their communications skills, to prepare speeches, make presentations, “think on their feet” and generally to enjoy Public Speaking, as well as to make new friends, is welcome to come along to any of these meetings. ALTAR SERVERS: A Training Session for altar servers in the three Churches in the Parish - Raheen Mungret and Crecora - has been arranged for Thursday next, 7 February, in Raheen Church at 7.30pm. The training will be provided by staff from the Diocesan Pastoral Centre. New altar servers are always welcome in each of the Churches!

BAPTISM MEETING: A Baptism meeting is being held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on Thursday evening next, 7 February, at 7.30pm; parents whose babies are about to be baptised are obliged to attend this meeting. Baptism meetings, organised by the Parish Baptism team, are held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7.30pm. The purpose of these meetings is to assist with preparation for receiving the Sacrament; parents, and godparents if possible, who reside in the parish, and who intend having their child baptised, are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, where all of the information which they require regarding the Sacrament of Baptism will be made available to them.

ST. NESSAN’’S PRIMARY SCHOOL: Parents wishing to have their child enrolled in the Junior Infant classes at St. Nessan’s Primary School, Mungret for the school year 2013/2014 are requested to note that the closing date for receipt of completed applications for that year is Monday next, 4 February, 2013 at 1pm. Applications received after that deadline will not be processed. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the School office at St. Nessan’s or by way of downloading from the School’s website www.stnessans.ie

PADRE PIO: On Wednesday next, 6 February, at 9.30am in St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Mungret the monthly Padre Pio Mass will be celebrated, followed by Prayers and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; everyone is welcome to attend this monthly celebration in honour of St. Padre Pio.

“CONSOLE”: The Adult Suicide Bereavement Support group, “Console - Living With Suicide”, holds meetings on the first Wednesday of every month, from 7pm to 9pm. The group’s next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 6 February, at Console House, 114 The Grange, Raheen, Limerick. Family, friends, work colleagues and community members who have been bereaved by the death of a loved one through suicide are welcome to come along to any of these monthly meetings, which are facilitated by Console staff; an appointment is not necessary. ALZHEIMER SOCIETY: Parishioners involved with the care of a family member or friend, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, are reminded that the Limerick Branch of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland is holding its next Carers meeting at the Mid Western Regional Office of the Alzheimer Society, 2nd Floor, Georges Quay House,Georges Quay, Limerick on Wed nesday, 6 February, from 7 to 8pm. All are welcome to attend. A reminder - a local telephone service is available, at 061-313456, between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

In addition, the Alzheimer Society holds a Coffee Club morning on the first Tuesday of each month at 11am in their Regional Office at the address referred to above. All family carers of people suffering from alzheimer or dementia are invited to come along. It is hoped to have regular Speakers at these monthly gatherings, as well as tea/coffee, a scone and a chat.

LIMERICK LIONS CLUB - THANKS: The Limerick Lions Club wishes to express its acknowledgement of the support given by various patrons and friends to the Club’s fundraising and other activities on behalf of many deserving causes in various communities in the Mid West region throughout 2012. Work Access provides a supported Employment Service in Limerick City, with Outreach Offices located in Kilmallock and in Newcastle West. WEEKLY ENVELOPE BOXES: Weekly envelope boxes, containing envelopes for each Sunday of the year 2013, have been distributed throughout the Parish; any Parishioner who has not been supplied with a box of envelopes, and who would wish to receive one, is welcome to contact the Parish Office, tel. 061-210869.

“PEAK PARKING”: These Notes wish to support the general points made in an Item under this heading in last week’s “St. Paul’s” Notes. Instances of motor vehicles being parked for the duration of the working day, or at least part thereof, have been noted in this suburb also. The situation is not acceptable when local residents are discommoded by this practice.

LECTURES - CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY: The initial Lecture in the series of Public Lectures, to celebrate the Year of Faith, at Mary Immaculate College, South Circular Road, will be delivered on Tuesday next, 5 February, at 5pm when Professor Eamonn Conway will address the topic “The New Evangelisation: Opportunities and Challenges”; subsequent Lectures will be delivered on successive Tuesday evenings at the same commencement times, all dealing with a Christian Spirituality - related topic. The Lectures will take place in Room 202 at Mary Immaculate College; admission to the Lectures is free, and everyone is welcome to come along.
