SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is extended to son Brendan, sisters Bridie Frawley, Patsy O’Grady, grandchildren Simone, Kirsty, Cheyanne, nephews, nieces, carer Betty Kerins, all other relatives and friends on the death of George Cunningham, recently.

THANKS: Thanks to the Sisters of Mercy, Thomas Street for allowing weekday Masses to be said in their chapel during the time the work was being completed in the parish church.

RATHKEALE: The cold, wet, miserable weather continues and it would be a very good thing to call our elderly citizens and those living alone. Check if they have heat and the necessities.

FILM: “Going My Way”, a fantastic crowd turned up at the Community Arts Centre on Saturday night for the showing of Going My Way with Barry Fitzgerald. Everyone enjoyed the film and the hot punch that followed, especially during this cold and wet weather. Everyone is looking forward to the next film in February.

WEEKEND SPECIAL: “Father Ted” Valentine weekend special in Rathkeale House Hotel on February 10 at 8pm. There will be a draw for a 1978 Ford Conrtina and a good night will be had by all.

CLONMEL COURSING: Clonmel is noted in greyhound circles for being the home of the annual national hare coursing meeting. This year it is being held from Saturday to Monday, February 2 to 4. Rathkeale will be represented this year with six greyhounds qualifying for the finals. Dennis Guiney, Enniscouch, Blades of Steel and Blades of Joy, both running in the Oaks; Tom White has Smart Touch running in the Championship Stake and Smart Ali in the Oaks; Padraig O’Connor, Rathnasare and Mark Dilger, Limerick have Boy the Kid running in the Derby and Brian Wilmott, Castlematrix has Kilkeale Hero running in the Derby. Rathkeale would like to wish all involved the best of luck.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: The Church gate collection for the Homeless due to be held last weekend was postponed due to the weather. It will be held later in the year.

UPCOMING CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: Sr. Consilio Fitzgerald of Cuan Mhuire, Bruree House will be holding her annual church gate collection in Rathkeale next weekend. Any support will be much appreciated in these hard times. We would like to thank our very loyal collectors who year after year stand out in all kinds of weather to help us with this worthy cause.
