CHURCH READERS: The following are the readers at masses this weekend, Sean O’ Riordan at the 7pm on Saturday evening and Ferghal O’ Sullivan at the 10am on Sunday morning.
FIRST COMMUNION: Ten children received their First Holy Communion in the Parish Church on Saturday last May 4th, there was a very big attendance, a lovely ceremony with the children playing a major role, the celebrant was Rev. Fr. Anthony Bluett. A lot of preparation before hand by so many people, the posters and decoration of the Church was much admired , well done to all, to add to the special day, the weather was very favourable. The following received the Sacrament, Gavin O’ Connell, Christopher Costigan, Cian Gubbins, Paddy O’ Sullivan, Chloe Noonan, Shane McMullen, Michael John O’ Dwyer, Caroline Regan, Darragh Considine, Shannon McMullen.

WALKS: Ballyhoura Bears have an evening walk from Kilfinane on this Thursday evening at 7.30 pm, contact 087-774 7058. On Saturday May 11th “C” walkers meet outside Ardpatrick Community Centre at 11am, contact 087-416 6769. On Sunday 12th the “A” walk is from Mount Mellery Abbey at 9.30am, contact 087-285 3878. The “B” walk on Sunday is in the local area, about 3.5 hours, meet at the Cycle Track car park at 11am, contact 086-382 4711. Last weekends festival was very well attended and blessed with great weather.
APRIL WEATHER: An unseasonably cold bleak month, frosts continued for the first week, then followed by a cold wet period which saturated the ground leading to extremely poor growth, this combined with a fodder shortage causing extreme hardship for the farming community. Total rainfall 113.8mm (4.49 ins) rain was recorded on 21 of the 30 days, wettest day was the 10th with 27.6mm (1.08 ins). Highest maximum air temperature +18.5 C recorded 23rd, lowest minimum air temperature -3.0 C recorded on the 5th. Lowest grass minimum temperature -8.8 C recorded on the 5th also.
