BEREAVEMENT: We extend our sympathy to Josie Conway, Kitty Davern, Nellie Ryan and their families on the sudden death of their brother John Conway, a native of Hospital, who died last week in Lincoln, England.

HEALING MASS: A Healing Mass will be celebrated in Knockainey Church Monday 4 March at 7.30pm by Reverent Fr. John Walsh. Water and Salt will be blessed at this Mass and also individual Eucharistic Blessings. All are welcome.

BASKETBALL: Morning Star Basketball Club hosted two clubs from two Munster counties on Sunday February 24. They were New Inn from Tipperary and Middleton from Cork. The club played two age groups U12 and 14 in the Millennium Centre, Caherconlish. The four games the girls played were very beneficial in gaining valuable experience and it was overall a very enjoyable day.

New Inn are team building and are not competing in leagues so games were their goal. Middleton we have played in previous years. They are well established and play in the Cork leagues. they gave good hard games which were evenly balanced.

The committee would like to thank the players and parents who helped out on the day, thanks also for providing the home baking and sandwiches for the visitors. They would also like to compliment the staff at the centre for their hospitality.

MUSICAL: The Witness, a musical by Carol and Jimmy Owens will be presented by the Diocese of Limerick in the Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College on Friday 8 March and Saturday 9 March at 8pm. Book your tickets at the Lime Tree Box Office Tel. 061/774774 or at €15 each.

AFTERNOON TEA DANCE: Will be held in Knockainey Community Centre on Sunday March 10 at 3pm, music by Liam O’Sullivan from 3 to 6pm. Admission €5, tea and homemade scones will be served, so come along and enjoy a great evening’s entertainment.

GAA: A Foundation Course for potential referees will take place over four nights within the next month, anyone interested in doing this curse should forward their names to Geraldine asap.

South Board Awards Night will be held on Saturday 9 March at Bulgaden Castle.

Applicants for scholarships to Corca Dhuibhne in the summer should give their names to Geraldine, also asap. Applicants must be members of the club or play with the club.

Membership for the coming year is also due. €30 for adults, €20 for students and €10 for children. Also a reminder that the 10 year membership cards have now expired. The Limerick Development (Mackay Stand) draw, which is a major source of revenue for the club, commences in the next few weeks. The club is hoping that people can help them by subscribing to the draw as the club has to reach a certain quota of members before it can avail of the funding.

AGM: The AGM of the Community Council was held last week. After the secretary, and treasurers reports were read and passed the following officers were elected for the coming year. Life Presidents: Sister Claude, Pat O’Byrne, Jennie Doherty and Dick Foley. Chairperson, Canon Conor Ryan, vice chair, Mike Ryan, secretary Tony Hehir, hall treasurer, Monica Hennessey, bingo treasurer, Peg Creighton assistant treasurer, Billy Laffan, PRO Betty Herr, representatives to Ballyhoura Mike Ryan, Betty Herr.

The chairperson thanked all members of the community council for their attendance, co-operation and kindness, bingo committee, Xmas committee Tidy Towns and Ballyhoura reps.

He went on to thank all in the community who give their time, efforts and talents and all those in the community who contribute in their own way to make life better.

MUSIC AND SONG: An evening of music and song with Tom and Jean and their musical friends in aid of Nantes 2 Lourdes Charity Cycle for Limerick Lourdes invalids and Cliona’s Foundation will be held in the Honey Fitz Theatre, Lough Gur on Saturday 9 March at 8pm. No admission charge but donations accepted on the night and a raffle for some wonderful prizes will also take place. Participating cyclists Brendan Ring, Martin Hartnett and Tony Power will be attending on the night.
