HOLY HOUR: The usual Holy Hour in Mitchelstown Parish Church will take place this Thursday night from 8pm to 9pm. Intentions and Prayers will be offered up for Pope Benedict who will retire today. Prayers will also be offered for his successor that God’s will for his successor will be realised with a new leader to guide in these difficult times.

FASHION SHOW: CBS Primary School Parent’s Council will present their 27th annual Fashion Show at the Firgrove Hotel on Tuesday March 5 8pm. Models by Hilary Thompson and some ‘Familiar Faces’ Local stands will be on display. Cheese & Wine reception. Raffle on door ticket. TROUT ANGLERS AGM: There was a good sized attendance at Mitchelstown Trout Anglers AGM held last week. Dan Roche Chairman presided. In his address he welcomed the members and paid tribute to all who worked so hard for the club during the past 12 months. Tributes were paid to two deceased members Billy O’Neill and Sean Dennehy who were called to their Eternal Reward during the year. A serious fish kill on the Gradogue in November led to hundreds of fish being killed. David Coughlan presented a detailed secretary’s report. The financial report showed club funds to be well handled and maintained. The stock of trout in trhe Funcheon is holding up well and anglers were requested to observe the bag limit and encouraged to practice the catch and release method of fishing as the fishing authorities no longer allow clubs to restock despite the fact that the same authorities do restocking on their own waters. Sean Dennehy Kildorrery presided over the election of Officers for 2013. MITCHELSTOWN JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS WIN: Mitchelstown Junior B footballers had a close win over Abbey Rovers in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 3 FL at Castletownroche on Sunday morning. The final score was 1-8 to 2-3. The lineout was Karl Sweeney, Liam Molan, Peter Griffin,Thomas Power, Greg Carroll, Eddie Walsh, Sean Lane, Liam Allen, Paddy O’Callaghan, John Gubbins, Shane Pigott 0-1, John O’Sullivan 0-1, Anthony O’Brien 0-3, Paul Horgan 1 -0 Joe O’Brien 0-3, Sub Paul Seymour for Karl Sweeney.

THE LATE MARTHA BURKE: The death occurred at St Finbarr’s Hospital Cork on February 21 of Martha Burke Main St Kildorrery. The late Martha was well known in the Kildorrery area being a retired shopkeeper. There was a large attendance at the removal on Saturday evening from her residence to St Bartholomew’s Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Sunday. Interment took place to the local cemetery. To her brother, sister, sister in law Sheila, nephews Edmund, Michael and Tom niece in law Aileen, grandnieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
