Church News: Mass in Broadford for the month of March 2013 will be on Sunday morning’s at 9.30am. Reader for Sunday morning March 3rd is Kathleen Barry and Eucharistic Ministers are Bernadette Moloney & Teresa Morrissey. March 1st is the first Friday of the month and Mass in Broadford will be at 7 o’clock in the evening and in Dromcollogher at 7.30pm.

Stations: The Lenten Station Masses for Broadford will be held at 7.30pm on Monday March 11th, Wednesday March 13th and on Friday March 15th.

Broadford Parish Clerk. Kitty Duggan our Parish Clerk would like to thank everybody for their generous contributions to the recent parish clerk’s collection.

Drom-Broadford Shave or Dye Campaign: There is a Today FM Shave or Dye event being held on the 9th of March in Neenans Bar Broadford at 9pm. Many brave people have volunteered to shave, dye or wax on the night and we will also be having an auction for many sought after sporting jerseys along with many other surprises.

All proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society to fund Cancer Information Service, Patient Care and Support, Cancer Research, Night Nursing, Daffodil Centers- providing information, support and advice to cancer patients, families, friends and healthcare professionals, Prevention and Education. We would very much appreciate your support.

Community Alert: - A very informative Community Alert meeting will be held on Wednesday February 20th last in the Day Care Centre Broadford. Tom O’Brien chairman of the local branch welcomed everybody and especially Crime Prevention Officer Diarmuid Cronin Cork and our local Sargent Walters. Application forms for personal alarms for people age 65 and over are now available from David O’Keeffe or Tom O’Brien.

Community Council A.G.M.: Broadford Development Association annual general meeting incorporating the Community Council will take place Tuesday March 5th in the Community Centre at 8.30pm. All householders are asked to attend this important meeting and help the association to make Broadford a better and safer place to live. Everybody is welcome.

The Gathering 2013: Broadford. A meeting to discuss possible events to celebrate “The Gathering 2013” will be held in the Community Centre Broadford on Thursday 7th March at 8pm. We are asking as many people as possible to attend this meeting so we can discuss the entire views of the community on this National event. Everybody welcome

Fitness Fun Walks: These walks continue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights leaving the GAA field in Dromcollogher at 7.15pm. Calling all who would like to boost their fitness levels, a special invitation to teenagers on mid-term to join us this week, suitable for all ages, if you need the motivation to fill your exercise quota come and join in. Everyone is welcome.

Friday night Dancing: The Sean Nos and other forms of dancing continue every Friday night in the Community Centre Broadford at 7.30pm. Come along and enjoy a great evening of fun.

West-Limerick Sports Awards: Congratulations to three members of the Dromcollogher/Broadford G.A.A. who have been nominated for awards at the West Limerick Hurling and Football Awards night in the Devon Hotel Templeglantine on Saturday March 3rd at 9.o’clock. Micheal Reidy will receive Senior footballer of the year in the county award. Paul Madigan the West Under 21 B hurler of the year award and Niall O’Brien the West Minor A hurler of the year. This is a great honor for these players and also for the club. Well done to you all

Bord Na NOg A.G.M.: The officers elected at the Dromcollogher/Broadford Bord Na nOg annual general meeting held in the Clubhouse recently were Chairman : - Pat McCarthy. Vice-chairman:- Maurice Browne Secretary: - Kieran Ryan and Treasurer: - Pat Lordan.

Paudie O’Se Memorial Tournament: The local Drom/Broadford senior football team traveled to Dingle on foot of an invitation to take part in the Paudie O’Se memorial tournament in the Dingle peninsula last week-end February 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Registration took place in Ventry on Friday night and we were drawn against the famous Austin Stacks of Tralee in the quarter-final and fielding an understrength squad we were a little rusty and the Tralee boys took full advantage of the situation but after a slow start, the younger generation of footballers from the parish we came more into the game and in the second half and were unlucky to lose. A good work out and the management will be happy with the new talent on show.

Mackey Stand Draw: The local Dromcollogher/Broadford G.A.A. is promoting the Limerick Club Development Draw formally known as the Mackey Stand Draw again this year and local promoters are: Seamus Lordan, Denis O’Carroll, Kieran Ryan, Charlie Butler, Tom McLoughlin, Tommie Reidy and John Cregan. The first draw takes place on the Friday 8th March and on the first Friday of each month afterwards. There are 28 attractive prizes each month plus 4 special prizes in April, May, June and July. The breakdown of the prizes are ;- 1st €15,000, 2nd €5000, 3rd €2000, 4th €1000, 5th to 8th each worth €500, 9th to 28theach worth €250. The special prizes in April and June are for two All-Ireland hurling tickets and in May and July for two All-Ireland football tickets plus B+B and evening meal on the Saturday night prior to the finals in Jury’s Croke Park Hotel. The local club is again seeking your continued support and with 50% of all monies collected from the draw staying within the club it is one of our main sources of income for the year. Promoters will be calling in the coming weeks and brochures and full details are available from any member of the committee. Contact our promoters now and new members are welcome.

G.A.A. Lottery: There was no winner of the €4,800 jackpot on Monday February 18th at the Corner House Bar. The numbers drawn were 8, 16, 25 and 28. Three people shared the match 3 prize of €100:- Donagh McCarthy Broadford, Tommie O’Sullivan Dromcollogher and Mike Quaid Dromcollogher, each received €35. The lucky dips prizes of €50 each were won by Mike Pierce Broadford and Jackie Flynn Feohanagh. The jackpot goes to €4,900 (win or share) and the Match 3 is €100 (win or share). All sold tickets to be handed in at the clubhouse on Monday evenings before 9o’clock. Tickets are available from any member of the committee or from all business premises, tickets €2 each or three for a €5.

Parent and Toddler Group: the parent and toddler group meet every Thursday in the daycare Centre Broadford from 10:30 to 12 noon. This is an opportunity for parents, grandparents and carers to meet and chat while the children play in a safe environment. All welcome.

Dromcollogher Mart: Dromcollogher Mart under the auspices of the Golden Vale Marts is having their opening Calf Sale on Wednesday night 27th February and on every Wednesday thereafter. Taking in calves from 5.30pm onwards with the sales commencing at 8 o’clock. Top buyers will be in attendance.

Cards at Neenans: First and second prizes were divided at the weekly 45 card drive at Neenans on Monday night between Tim Burke Knockglass & Monica Neenan Boola and Tom Ahern Ratheenagh & Martin Flynn Bunoke. The spot prize went to Dan Barry and Maurice Nunan. Raffle winners were 1st €35 Mickie Murphy Springfield. , 2nd €20 Denny McCarthy and 3rd €10 Martin Flynn Feohanagh.
