BALLINA HANDBALL: Ballina handball club juvenile members had a busy weekend with Primary Schools’ 40x20 County finals taking place on Saturday last and the North Tipperary 40x20A championship finals on Sunday. Ballina Primary school representatives were most successful, winning three titles - Cian Oakley and Cathal O’Donnell won the boys U11 doubles: Gráinne O’Brien and Amy McKeogh won the girls U11 doubles: Isabel Farnan and Siobhan Prentice won the girls U13 doubles. These players will now represent Tipperary primary schools in the Munster finals in Kerry next weekend.
Another day of great performances by our juveniles was enjoyed at the North Tipperary 40x20 ‘A’ championship finals on Sunday. In the U10 doubles, our boys were narrowly beaten by a strong pair from Ballinahinch, as were our boys U11 doubles.
Our girls U13 singles player was beaten by a strong Nenagh player. In the boys U11 singles, Adam Fogarty had a great win over Silvermines. Adam lost the first game, but had a convincing win in the second to take the title on overall aces. In the girls U11 doubles, Gráinne O’Brien and Amy McKeogh won both their games in convincing fashion.
In the girls U12 doubles, Isabel Farnan and Siobhan Prentice made a slow start, losing their first game against Lahorna 15-9, but they rallied in the second game taking it 15-2. The tiebreaker was very close but the Ballina girls dug deep and won 15-12. Well done to all to all those that represented both the school and the club!
