Under 21 ‘A’ Football South Final
Thanks to Gerry Dolan for this match report ~ Our Under 21 Footballers played Galbally in the Under 21 South Final last Saturday afternoon ~ 2nd Nov. ‘13, venue being Kilfinane and throw in was at 3 p.m. The game was played in atrocious conditions and to make matters worse the game was 15 minutes late in starting with both sets of players on the field for at least 25 minutes before a ball was even kicked. As mentioned the weather was very poor with pelting rain and a biting gale blowing up from the dressing room end. Galbally played with the gale in the 1st half and proceeded to chalk up a half time lead of 1:06 to CTB 0:00. As expected the second half was different with Galbally getting just 1 point in the second half while we put 1:03 on the board and Niall Clifford was desperately unlucky not to add 2 more goals to the one scored by David O’ Donnell after only 5 minutes of the restart. Niall did put over 3 well struck points in this second half which we dominated. We can play a lot better than we showed especially in the 1st half but having said that we were unlucky not to take this final on a day that you won’t put a dog out in such were the conditions. We have to praise all the lads who turned up today and played their hearts out. The display today showed the possibilities for this group of players and that was certainly encouraging to the rest of us who wish only the best for our club. Also in fairness well done to Galbally Management team and players who conducted and played the game in a very sporting manner, and also thanks to their captain for making a fine speech on being presented with the cup. Final Score: CTB 1:03 to Galbally’s 1:07
Under 21 Football: As we lost the Under 21 ‘A’ Football final, and with only 2 teams competing we were automatically crowned U21 ‘B’ winners. So we now advance to the County Semi Final round to be played at a later stage.
