SOCCER: Newport Junior B Soccer team clinched a vital three points on their travels to Caherconlish with a 5-2 win. Joe Conneally, Cormac McDonnell, Ritchie Ryan, Ritchie Shinnors, Danny Healy(Captain). Well done boys....
In the U15 Cup the final result was Shelbourne 4 - Newport 1.
The Newport team gave good account of themselves in divisional cup away to Shelbourne on a very windy and cold evening .
Set pieces proved to be our downfall where the bigger Shelbourne lads got on the end of couple corners and free kicks , Newport to there credit kept headers out but rebounds just seem to fall in favour of a Shels player and the bit luck Newport deserved didn’t come their way .
Thomas Carroll replied for Newport and was unlucky not to add a second when a powerful header from a Newport corner flew just over the bar . Overall a good performance against a strong shels side , best for Newport on night were Aidan Healy and Dade Richter . The A’s won 1-0 in a very tight and hard fought encounter away to Janesboro. Dean Lenihan with the late winner. This has been a great run of results and it is great to be in the thick of things at this stage of the season The 17’s gained a valuable three points at home versus Caherdavin with a 4-2 scoreline. In keeping with the golf theme at the moment with the ‘Masters’ in Augusta, Newport’s very own ‘K-Club’ bagged all four goals for the team giving a master class of their own; Keith Mawdsley, Kalem Harte, & Kieran Casey(2) grabbing the plaudits. Great resilience has been shown by this team bouncing back from their mid-week set back. Some of these lads have made the junior ranks already this season, and will go on to have long successful careers in local soccer ahead from them. Well done boys, ye do the club proud.
