After 163 years, the mercy nuns were leaving Rathkeale and tributes were paid to them for the work they did down through the years. In the church were Sr Jerome, Sr Joseph, Sr Mary,Sr.Koskka, Sr Papricia, Sr Lillian, Sr De Montfort and others. Among the priests on the alter were Fr Phonsie Cullinane, Fr Willie Russell, Fr Maurice Costelloe, Monsignor Boyle, Cannon Dempsey, Fr Muiris O’Connor, Fr Irwin, Fr Pat O’Sullivan, Fr Michael O’Shea, Fr Tony Mullins representing our own Bishop, Fr Chris O’Donnel, Rev Scott, minister and others. Colaiste Na Trocaire Choir, Folk choir and senior Choir sang during the mass and Rathkeale brass band also played. The nuns were presented with a candle, in appreciation of their work during their time in Rathkeale. It was a very moving and emotional occasion. Everyone then went to Rathkeale House Hotel where everybody had something to eat and people reminisced and presentations were to the departings nuns. The nuns were wished health, happiness and God’s blessings. Let us pray for them.
